This Final Refuge Friday, we are celebrating a Gotcha Day for Honey, a sweetheart who was surrendered to Old Dog Haven by a family member after her owner passed away. Honey had advanced dental disease, skin allergies and separation anxiety. She needed a home with someone who was home often and, of course, veterinary care and a desperately needed dental. Lucky for Honey, a brand-new foster was available to take her, and they are a perfect match. Here's what Honey's forever foster mom shared this week:

"Honey’s Year 1 Gotcha Day! Thank you Old Dog Haven for blessing me with this beautiful companion πŸ’ž! She is 14 now, happy and healthy, and filled with love!! We bonded right away and she has added so much to my life. She loves her food and cuddles and being with me in the garden!πŸ’—πŸ’—"

Honey no longer needs the anxiety medication she came with and she is obviously thriving and well-loved. We are so happy for Honey!

We appreciate your continued support and shares for Old Dog Haven.

ADOPTION PENDING

This cutie pie is Daisy. She is a 9 year old, 7 pound pomeranian/shih tzu mix. Daisy has a favorite blanket she brings along with her almost everywhere she goes to make her "lounging" more comfortable. What a hoot! So take note: when you adopt Daisy, you adopt her blankie too!

𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐰 is that Daisy is a trip hazard. She does tend to stay underfoot, so if you are at risk of falling, you should not adopt Daisy, no matter how darling you think she is!

Daisy desires to be a companion dog; she does best when she is receiving attention. Her family's lifestyle does not mesh well with this, as they have to leave her for long hours. Being crated for so long is not fun. Neighbors have noted hearing her cries when her people are gone. So sad! While we firmly believe it is important that a dog should be OK being left alone for periods of time, long hours day after day do not make a dog happy. Daisy is not left out of the crate unless someone is home. We are told she is taken out 3 times for potty breaks, which is not much at all. More than likely, as she ages, she will require more potty breaks.

Daisy lived with another dog years ago. Since coming to her current home, she has not lived with another dog. Maybe a home can be found where she can remain as such. She is "reactive" when she sees another dog outside of her home. This could be the common behavior a dog exhibits while on a leash when they see another dog. We can't say for sure. Perhaps she would be OK with another dog, her age and size, that would be non-threatening to her? Daisy would need someone who could give proper introductions, smart integration, and show patience and compassion with her move. Daisy has never been observed around cats. She has done well with kind, gentle children who are old enough to be respectful.

Short daily walks make Daisy happy. She does well on leash; we are told she does not pull at all. As we mentioned previously, she does bark when she sees another dog on walks. Maybe she's just trying to say hi, or she's curious and would like to meet the other dog? Wouldn't it be nice to know what goes through a dog's mind sometimes?

At this time, Daisy can manage stairs. Daisy had a dental last year; her owners report she gets her teeth brushed once a month when she is groomed. Daisy's adopter should be able to continue with regular veterinary care, grooming, and good-quality dog food. Daisy is a young senior who could actually be middle-aged, given her size. With good care and some luck, Daisy could be around for a long time!

Daisy would love someone who wants her to sit with them. She tries to get as close to her people as possible. What a little love! Who wouldn't want to share their life and home with Daisy? She is going to make a delightful new addition to her new home.

Daisy is located in Lacey, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Happy Friday Friends!
Rascal is still hoping to find his happily ever after. Let's share him again and help make it happen! πŸ™πŸΎ

Rascal is an 11-year-old, 66-pound mixed-breed dog who spent 6 years of his life living outdoors in a shelter.

Rascal has been given a beautiful glimpse into what family life can be β€” and now he needs someone to continue that journey. Rascal has come so far since he made it to rescue. Now his rescuers are looking for a calm and committed home to help him keep growing.

Rascal enjoys playing with medium to large-sized dogs once he is properly introduced to them. His rescuers state he may be OK with a cat as long as there is supervision. Because he will guard his uneaten food, he should eat away from other animals (a common practice for many dogs!). Because he needs a quiet, stable home with calm introductions, we would recommend a home without young children for Rascal. Rascal barks at strangers when they come to the house, so that is something that will need to be continued to work on.

As many Rascal seniors do as they age, Rascal has cataracts that limit his night vision. Aside from that, he takes only a digestive supplement. He enjoys his baths, car rides, and he is obsessed with toys. His rescue fosters have worked on his house manners, and he is doing great! Rascal is thriving with love, care, and stability.

Rascal is a gem who needed cleaning up and time to learn trust to shine! He shows his sweet, loyal, loving nature. He has left the life of neglect he lived behind, and now he is ready to move on to the home he will have for the rest of his days.

Rascal is posted for All4Paws Okanogan Rescue located in Okanogan County, WA. If you are interested in fostering Rascal for their rescue or even better yet, adopting him, please email: [email protected] or text 509-634-0789. You can apply here to foster or adopt Rascal:

We just LOVE receiving updates on dogs we post! Because you all share, senior dogs find loving new homes.

Recently posted and ADOPTED pair Reggie and Joey's adopter sent us an update saying that the pair had settled in nicely πŸ™‚. Looks like they have a new "sibling" too!

And we heard from Swayze's adopter who told us this:

"I adopted Swayze through a post here! He was located in the next town over and has settled in beautifully. This weekend is our 1 Year Gotcha!"

Look how happy, how content Swayze is.😊

We are so grateful to the adopters of Joey, Reggie, and Swayze. We really appreciate the updates and happy photos.

If you adopted a dog through our posts and you would like to share an update, please private message our page so we are sure to see it!

We have an UPDATE!

Kano has been ADOPTED
We are so very happy for him. He is such a special boy!

If you shared Nico the chihuahua we had posted today, you may be wondering why he's no longer listed. He has already been adopted. His now former owner didn't let us know so we posted him. You all did a FABULOUS job sharing him, but it turned out to not be necessary. Sorry about that, Friends. However, we are glad for Nico and wish him the best.

Happy Thursday Friends. We hope you will join us with a share for Morpheus, a cross post for the folks at the Blue Mountain Humane Society .

Check out Morpheus! What a grand name for a grand dog! Morpheus landed in the shelter in September of 2025 after being found stray. He is a 60 pound mixed breed boy who has been estimated to be about 8 years old.

Currently, Morpheus is living in a shelter foster home where he is the only dog. While he was the shelter, he showed some dominant behavior towards a male dog when he was introduced. Morpheus was fine with the other dogs in the playgroup. It could be that he would be fine in a home with a female dog? No one has cat tested Morpheus.

When meeting new people, Morpheus can be shy, but with time and patience, it doesn't take long for him to show his true, loving, and sweet personality. Morpheus is a wonderful companion dog. He loves to go for car rides and be included on outings.

Once back at home, Morpheus finds a warm blanket and cozies up next to his people for a nap.
Morpheus sounds like a true friend who is ready to find a family to devote the rest of his life to!

Morpheus is posted for the Blue Mountain Humane Society located in Walla Walla, WA. For more information about Morpheus and adopting him, please email: [email protected] . The shelter's adoption application is online here: https://www.bluemountainhumane.org/apply-now

Will you please share this plea, Friends?

A senior pair has been added to our wait list for a forever foster home. We are hoping to shelter pull these siblings ASAP. Our goal is to keep them together but we can't do that unless we find a home with someone willing and able to take two.
Once we find a home for them, all of their vet bills are covered for the rest of their lives thanks to all of you who donate.

URGENT NEED - Old Dog Haven PERMANENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED:
(in W. Washington or Portland, OR)

Doby and Mia are a brother-and-sister bonded pair,. chihuahua/terrier mixes. Each dog weighs about 12 pounds. Their exact age is unknown, best shelter guess is about 11 years old.

Doby is the cute, scruffy boy. Mia is the adorable girl with the Grogu ears.

Each dog has a very large heart murmur. As Old Dog Haven dogs, they will see a cardiologist and more than likely need lifelong medication. Both dogs have a luxating patella but only on the left side. Genetics! The lab work done at the shelter looked quite good, so their other organs are working well at this point.

They came into the shelter together after owner passed and are of course terrified there, huddling together. Relatives said they are defensive
around new people coming into the home, but fine once they know you at
all.

The shelter has found a temporary foster for both to
see if they are more confident outside the kennels. The foster has commented here to say the pair are settling in well. They are even doing fine with their cats!

We would love to keep them together! If you have room and patience for two little ones who need a place to feel safe and
loved and wanted - please let us know immediately.

Get started on the process to become a forever foster for Doby and Mia by reading the link below and then email our applications manager. There is no application on our website to foster..
