We got a our first travel trailer in April and have spent a lot of time exploring this summer in Colorado. There has been a huge learning curve - my husband and I are still married despite many foibles 😂 - and like any travel, not everything goes according to plan. There is an enormous amount of figuring things out that you never knew before and an enormous amount of patience required when things don’t go according to plan. But in between the comedy of errors there are moments of beauty that remind you why you wanted to have the adventures in the first place.

I learned that for me, a staycation of four nights is just about enough. It takes me that long to get bored, which isn’t too bad! Upon arriving home in Steamboat, the tandem airplanes that were doing laps at Stagecoach flew over our house. Air quality at the lake was good except for two nights, and air quality was good arriving home.✨ Glad I can set up and pack up a 25 foot travel trailer all by myself, but I’m pooped 😂

The fire is out here (thank goodness!) but these super scooper planes have been coming in, in tandem, all week to scoop water for the fire in Steamboat. Their laps seem at times only 5-8 minutes apart. It’s impressive to watch. Grateful we have a reservoir to help the firefighting efforts.

Lake is closed for fire operations, but there is always outdoor yoga, thanks ✨

We canceled a planned camping week in Ouray, CO due to wildfire. Yesterday, when we left our house in just before 1pm, we could see the fire. When we got to our “staycation” campsite at Lake, the fire was right across the lake from our campsite and had just started 😯 Within 30 minutes, there were at least 7 firefighting aircraft on the scene, from three helicopters drawing water to airplanes dropping fire retardant and two additional aircraft scooping water from the lake. The response was impressive and there is still one helicopter drawing water from the lake. Thank you to all the first responders in the air and on the ground. Apart from awful wind last night that made the air quality terrible, even though the lake is closed, we can enjoy the shade and views of the lake. Thinking of everyone whose homes were impacted.
