Thank you to all who visited Home Ground Habitats during our Fall Celebration this last Saturday, on October 17! 🥹🧡 To our community partners who tabled and presented, and our volunteers who greeted and assisted on the sales floor, we couldn’t have done it without you all! We’re so grateful for our Home Ground Habitats community. ✨

This was our largest sale to date and we’re elated that more and more people are creating habitat gardens by adding plants that support pollinators! Every native plant you add to your garden makes a difference.

If you’re interested in what plants we still have available, visit our nursery Tuesday-Thursday from 1-4pm. Let us help you create your dream habitat garden in time for the winter season.

Who's ready to visit Home Ground Habitats this Saturday, Oct 17, from 10am-3pm, for our Fall Celebration?

Our 1 acre garden has been expertly designed and is ready to welcome you. Walk through our demonstration garden, explore our current inventory on habitat plants, meet our incredible tablers and vendors, learn from our presenters, and get inspired!

This , we’re highlighting the Common Checkered-Skipper (Burnsius communis)! This small butterfly has white-checkered wings and is so adorable.

Another spotlight in this video is the plant it’s collecting nectar from: Lippia nodiflora, or also known as common lippia. This low growing, mat-forming California native ground cover is an incredible, pollinator-friendly, lawn replacement.

The Presentation Schedule for Home Ground Habitats Fall Celebration is here! This event is not only a plant sale (20% off the entire nursery) and an educational tabling event but there will be opportunities to learn even more from our amazing presenters!

On Saturday, October 17, starting from 10:30am-2:30pm, we have an incredible line up of presentations. Check out what each of our partner's will be talking about and plan your visit accordingly. You won't want to miss out!

This , we’re getting set up with our new seed packet display, showcasing many of our native wildflower seeds. These and many more seeds will be 20% off during our Fall Celebration on October 17 from 10am-3pm!

Look who we found in our compost pile this . A Sharp-tailed snake (Contia tenuous)! 🩶

As mentioned in their name, these snakes have very sharp tails, wielding a distinctive spine-like tip. This is their main defense mechanism, creating the sensation of a sting or poke to any predator. Another way to identify this snake is if you see white and black striped banding across their belly. What a beauty! 😍

These small and interesting snakes are a California native and love moist environments rich in leaf litter, logs, and surface debris. Their diet consists almost entirely of slugs and slug eggs making them the perfect natural pest control for the garden!

When habitat gardening, remember to:
🍂 Leave the leaves
🪵 Keep the logs
🌱 Skip the pesticides
You’ll create a garden that supports and provides habitat for this snake and other wildlife!

Want to learn how to garden in Marin? Living in a California biodiversity hotspot, it's important to know how your garden can benefit the pollinators and wildlife around you.

On Saturday, October 10, we will have our final class to the Watershed Approach to Landscaping (WAL) series at the College of Marin, Indian Valley Campus. Leading up to our Fall Celebration, we’re featuring a pollinator plant that will be available during our huge 20% plant sale! This , we have Seaside daisy (Erigeron glaucus)! 🩷

You can find blooms in purple, sometimes white, but we have a special pink blooming hybrid for sale at Home Ground Habitats. The golden yellow center is a magnet for bees, butterflies, and moths through the entire foraging season. They’re low growing and spreading to make a beautiful wide mound, working brilliantly as a ground cover, along borders, and in rock gardens.

Seaside daisy is native to the coastal bluffs of California, so is tolerant to wind and salt spray! But are drought tolerant, deer resistant, fire resistant, and truly a wonderful addition to your garden.
