Please join us in welcoming Käthe Wright Kaufman as Placement Advisor for the Association of Anglican Musicians!

Käthe is Associate Director of Music & Organist at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, South Carolina. Previously, she served as Associate Director of Music & Organist at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church and as Chapel Organist at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in Atlanta.

A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Käthe has also served as Organ Scholar at Truro Cathedral and Peterborough Cathedral in the UK. She is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, an active recitalist, and a published composer with Selah Publishing Company.

We are delighted to welcome Käthe to this role and grateful for the experience, insight, and commitment to church music she brings to AAM and its members.

Please join us in welcoming The Most Rev. Melissa M. Skelton as Chaplain of the Association of Anglican Musicians.

Archbishop Skelton recently retired as Bishop Provisional of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia. She previously served in the Anglican Church of Canada as Archbishop of the Diocese of New Westminster and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon, where she was the first woman elected a Metropolitan and Archbishop in the Anglican Church of Canada.

Before her election as bishop, she served as rector of St. Paul’s, Seattle, and as Canon for Congregational Development and Leadership in the Diocese of Olympia. She also created the College for Congregational Development, a training program for clergy and lay leaders that has since expanded to dioceses across the Episcopal Church and Canada.

We are delighted to welcome Archbishop Skelton to the AAM Board and grateful for the experience, leadership, and pastoral presence she brings to our community.

Applications are now open for the Raymond Glover Grant for Episcopal Liturgical Music. Honoring one of AAM’s co-founders, this $3,500 professional development grant supports an AAM member or candidate for membership seeking to deepen their skills in music and its integral connection to the liturgy of The Episcopal Church.

Please join us in welcoming AAM’s newly-elected board members, Susan Jane Matthews, D.M.A., Vice President, and Janet Yieh, Director-at-Large!

Susan is Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Burlingame, California, where she serves as organist, directs the Choir of St. Paul’s and founded its Choir School. A longtime advocate for women musicians in the church, she is also founding coordinator of A Great Host of Women Composers database.

Janet is Director of Music at Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City and previously served as Associate Organist at Trinity Church Wall Street. An accomplished recitalist and advocate for women composers, she co-founded Amplify Female Composers and previously served and chaired AAM’s PCDC Committee.

We are grateful for the experience, leadership and commitment Susan and Janet bring to AAM and look forward to their service on the Board!

Beverly Ward was our last living Charter Member who attended our first gathering in Indianapolis (1966). Thank you to St. James Episcopal Church and AAM Members, Brad Gee and Tate Addis, for honoring him in this way.

This new resource is now available on RiteSong. The hymns included in this collection are offered as alternatives for those who wish to use them. Their publication does not constitute a revision of the authorized hymnal.

The digital collection of Alternative Hymn Texts was developed by the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music in response to General Convention Resolution 2024-A130 which mandated its creation. The collection offers alternative versions of hymns that address issues of ”colonialist, racist, white supremacist, imperialistic, and nationalistic language.”

Over several years, the SCLM conducted focus groups, engaged in a comprehensive study of The Hymnal 1982, and worked to achieve consensus on revision of texts.

Some hymns contained problematic language and imagery that could not be addressed with minor edits and were omitted from the collection. Others could not be changed due to restrictions imposed by copyright holders. Diverse approaches and cultural contexts influence decisions regarding the Church’s song. This collection represents an initial step in evaluating the words of our worship to ensure that all find a welcome.
