Today's featured friend: Mr.Floof!

Mr. Floof was found, with his siblings, outside the Tabby Shack at about 8 weeks old and has been in our care for nearly a year now. Initially, Floof had no interest in being rescued or interacting with humans. However, as time has passed, he has learned to enjoy the finer things in life. He's often found minding his own business or snuggling with another rescue cat, but he has no issue coming up for pets on his terms. He loves head rubs and coming up to visit every time you enter a bathroom. Floof has found a best friend in 2 other rescue cats, one of which we believe to be an actual brother from a previous litter (see Milo). While he can live as the only pet, Floof definitely thrives in the comfort of another feline. Since he is long-haired, he does require an occasional trim on his tail, but only if something gets stuck. Otherwise, Floof is extremely low maintenance and relaxed. He enjoys sunbathing, snuggling with other cats, and smacking toys around the house. He is very affectionate with his people, but he can still startle easily, but briefly, with strangers. He is very curious and typically unafraid to investigate anything new. We recently had a meet and greet with Floof and he was very reluctant and scared in the presence of a gentleman. We are hoping this was a fluke and he just didn't vibe with him. Mr. Floof is definitely a staff favorite. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and house trained. He currently lives with other rescue cats and the resident dog.

We know it is getting warmer so cuddling season is ending... but how could you say no to Mr. Peanut Butter?

Hello humans, Bella here 💖

Do you ever just crave peace and quiet? Want to just sit on your couch and read a book with a lap cat? Have a serene home that is looking for a feline friend?
If this sounds like you, then I am the girl you are looking for!
I am around 8 years old, UTD on my vaccines, spayed (so no surprises), I have a microchip and I am litter box trained.

Enough of the boring stuff though, I have been through quite a few homes and I just want my own people to trust and live peacefully with. I sometimes vibe with other cats and dogs, but I am picky about the friends I make.

I would love to just lounge, have some snacks, snuggle up and enjoy some leisurely activities into my senior years.

Please apply on petfinder or reach directly out to my awesome foster parents at the Tabby Shack if you are interested in giving me a furever home 🤍

It has been quite a busy few weeks during the holiday season but as we approach extremely cold temperatures next week... we wanted to share some cold weather cat prep!

"Winter impacts cats that spend any appreciable amount of time outside the most, and the combination of low temperatures, wind, and snow/ice can predispose cats to hypothermia and frostbite. The best way to avoid these problems is to keep cats indoors at all times. For those cats that cannot be kept indoors, it is important to provide shelter from the cold, wind, and precipitation by either providing access to purpose-built shelters or to indoor environments with adequate bedding (straw is a good choice, avoid newspaper, cloth, and hay), food, and water. Measures should be taken to prevent the water from freezing (i.e. solar water heater, using thick plastic bowls rather than shallow ceramic bowls), and if possible, the shelter should be raised off the ground to avoid body heat loss into the ground. Its also important to realize that cats burn more calories to stay warm in the winter, so feeding them a bit more than during the warm weather months will help them avoid losing weight.

Another issue to consider is automotive hazards that cold weather may expose cats to. Since car engines generate heat and outdoor cats are constantly seeking warmth, cats can be injured when they seek warmth in the wheel wells and/or engine compartment of cars and owners unknowingly start their cars and drive away. It’s a good idea to check the wheel wells of your car and to either honk your horn or bang on the hood of your vehicle before starting it, to prompt any cats that may be seeking shelter in the engine compartment to leave.

Finally, winterizing cars with antifreeze places cats at risk, because antifreeze is extremely toxic to cats if ingested, and its taste is attractive to cats. To minimize this risk, be sure to keep all antifreeze well contained and out of reach of cats and to clean up any antifreeze spills and leaks promptly."

Rescue is not for the faint of heart. These pictures show an adorable kitten who is warm, well fed, being nurtured and cared for. Just last week this kitten was frantic, cold and outside.

If we take out the financial aspect of rescuing, it still isn't for the faint of heart.

We rescue because we believe in a better life for those who can't help themselves. We rescue because of kittens like this who deserve a fighting chance. We rescue because if not us, then who?

On this late Saturday night, we ask for you to adopt not shop when looking for a new pet. We ask for you to donate to your local shelter or rescue. We ask for you to open your hearts to those in need.

It isn't all warm and fuzzy moments, but this little guy has a chance now.... that is why we rescue 🩵🩵
