I want to share something that quite a few people deal with, and it’s not talked about enough. Since the beginning of the year, I have been dealing with survivor’s remorse; however, it came in like a “thief of the night” a couple of weeks ago and took me completely out. When people I am close to pass away from cancer, it causes me to take a step back. I began to question God and ask why my life was spared. I start to feel guilty because I am not doing what I need to do to thrive and live a healthy life consistently. I begin to slip into a dark hole because I feel that I
am not showing my gratitude to God for my existence. I smile a lot through the pain. The guilt is sometimes overbearing. The news of death and cancer, for me, takes it to a whole other level. My therapist suggested antidepressants, and if you know me, then you know I am a natural remedy kind of girl. However, I tried the antidepressants for three days and quickly returned to the natural remedy on the fourth day. The funny thing is that I started feeling better while taking the natural supplements, but I wanted to listen to the doctor for once and give the antidepressants a try.
Like before, I am beginning to feel better with the natural medicine. Please note that there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking antidepressants, but for me, it made me feel worse.

I am sharing this because survivor’s remorse/guilt, etc., is a real thing. If you know someone who has survived a life-threatening situation, check on them. I am known to be one of the “strongest people” out there, but sometimes, even the strongest people fold.

Thinking of you Kawana, Janice, Melissa, Tina, Vickie S., Vicki R., Zi Zi ❤🕊

In 2013, I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and underwent chemotherapy. At that time, I heard about cold capping after losing my hair. Back then, I didn't care about being bald. I embraced it, and it worked for me. I thought it was cute, a bold statement, and it made me feel powerful! It was a great experience. Fast forward to 2023, after being diagnosed a second time with TNBC, my oncologist suggested cold capping. I did a lot of research before choosing Penguin Cold Cap. During my research, I found, unfortunately, not much information on African-American hair and success with cold capping. What little I did find, I had to combine bits and pieces of the information to have a protocol that worked for me. One of the most essential pieces of the process was having a cold cap therapist (85% of my hair remained). Penguin Cold Cap, I suggest adding a section to the instructions for hair type 3a to 4c for African-American hair. Reach out; I have so much to share! After it was over, four months later, I was blessed to choose to cut my hair; it felt so liberating! Yes, cold capping is very expensive, and I am thankful I only had a few treatments. I hope insurance companies will add it under cancer care benefits because every woman deserves that option! Overall, using was the best decision I could have made.

True. I am four months out from treatment, and there are days when it’s tough to get out of bed; however, I get out of it and function until it’s time to go back to bed and close off the world.

Made it to DC a couple of hours ago. I had to take a moment of silence for a warrior and super advocate in the breast cancer movement, Suzanne Somers. Rest in Peace.
