The Village of Northbrook currently has a vacancy on the Village Board of Trustees, and the Village is accepting applications from residents who are interested in serving the community.

Serving on the Village Board is an important opportunity to help guide decisions that impact Northbrook’s future — from fiscal responsibility and infrastructure to maintaining the high quality of life that makes our community such a great place to live.

If you have ever thought about getting involved in local government or contributing your perspective to the direction of our Village, this is a great opportunity to step forward.

The appointment will fill the remainder of a term through April 2027, and applications are currently being accepted.

Two Items Requiring Attention

1. The Village received more than 20 responses to the RFP for the Village-owned Grainger property, yet residents have not been informed of a single proposal. Why has there been no communication to the community regarding what is being considered? Residents deserve transparency and an opportunity to understand the options and have a voice in determining what belongs on that site.

2. Soil borings have recently been conducted in front of the Meadow and Cherry Shopping Center—specifically near Bean Bar. Soil testing is typically an early indicator of planned construction. Why has this activity not been communicated to residents in advance or explained after the fact?

Why have these matters not been brought forward by Village Board members to keep residents informed and engaged?

Separately, what is the status of Northbrook Court nearly one year after the election? For years, residents have heard repeated claims that construction permits were imminent. During the campaign, improved communication and transparency were emphasized as priorities. To date, there has been little to no follow-up shared with the community.

The Village of Northbrook is seeking an experienced Building Official to lead building plan review, code administration, permitting, and inspections that ensure safe, high-quality development in our community.

💼 Salary:
Hiring range: +/- $120,000 (depending on qualifications)
Full range: $93,150 – $156,570 | Grade 340
Status: Full-time, Exempt

🔍 What You’ll Do:
• Oversee permit applications, plan reviews, and inspections
• Interpret and administer ICC, municipal, state, and federal building codes
• Serve as a technical resource for residents, contractors, and design professionals
• Recommend code updates and manage permit fees
• Improve processes, track performance metrics, and meet departmental goals
• Manage consultants, contracts, and support budgeting efforts
• Collaborate across departments and support emergency inspections
• Prepare reports and present to boards and commissions

✅ Ideal Candidate:
• Bachelor’s degree in construction technology, architecture, engineering, or related field (preferred)
• 10+ years of progressive experience in architecture, engineering, construction, inspection, or related roles
• 1–3 years of supervisory experience (preferred)
• Strong knowledge of building codes and plan review
• ICC Residential/Commercial Building Inspector certification (or ability to obtain)
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License or ability to obtain upon hire

An item of interest on this agenda is the Rivian Dealership and the sales tax rebate incentive.

Rivian has been looking to develop land in our town for around a year now. It appears they may have found the right spot for their facility on Skokie Blvd. Rivian has stated that they will need a significant sales tax rebate incentive for their dealership to be built. All incentive documents are within the packet. Glad to see we may have a positive tax generating dealership making what will hopefully be a long term investment into our community.
