Confidence does not only come from praise. It also grows through contribution.

In this short clip from our Lunch and Learn, From Manager to Mentor, Dr. Leigh Weisz reminds parents that helping at home is about more than chores. When kids contribute in meaningful ways, they build competence, belonging, and confidence.

Anxiety can pull us into what might happen next. Coming back to the present does not solve everything, but it can help us take the next steady step. For caregivers carrying a lot, that pause matters. 💜

When a child or teen shares who they are, parents and caregivers may feel a lot at once: love, worry, confusion, fear, protectiveness, or uncertainty about what to say next.

Here’s the truth: your child does not need you to have it all figured out immediately. They need to know you are staying close.

A few powerful places to start:

“I love you.”
“Thank you for trusting me.”
“I’m listening.”
“I may be learning, but I’m not leaving.”

Acceptance is protective. Connection is protective. A home where a young person can breathe and be themselves is protective.

CATCH is here to help families keep showing up, especially when the conversation feels new or hard.

The words our kids hear from us matter.

Small phrases, repeated over time, can help build resilience, self-trust, and the confidence to keep going when life feels hard.

As parents and caregivers, we don’t have to say everything perfectly, but language that reminds kids they are supported, capable, and allowed to grow through mistakes can make a lasting difference.

What do you most want your child to grow into?

Kind? Resilient? Grateful? Independent?

One of the practical takeaways from our May Lunch & Learn was simple but powerful: choose one value that matters most to your family and look for everyday ways to practice it on purpose.

The small things we return to each day matter. Our thoughts, habits, and choices shape how we move through hard seasons and healing seasons alike. Progress is not always loud. Sometimes it looks like showing up one small step at a time.

Pride Month is a reminder that belonging is not a bonus. It is a mental health need.

For LGBTQIA+ youth, feeling seen, accepted, and supported by the people around them can make a life-changing difference. And for parents and caregivers, support doesn’t have to mean having every perfect word. It can start with listening, staying curious, using the name and pronouns your child shares with you, and making sure they know your love is not up for debate.

At CATCH, we believe every young person deserves a community where they feel safe, valued, and never alone.

This month and always, we stand with LGBTQIA+ youth and the families who love them. 💜🌈
