Guidance for Small Voices, Big Feelings

Dear Friends,
How do parents today talk to children dealing with challenges stemming from war, violence and antisemitism when they may not have experienced these issues themselves?

You must be present, listen and acknowledge their emotions, recommends Karen Azoulay of Hadassah International.

Azoulay joins Dr. Shiri Ben-David, head psychologist at the Hadassah Medical Organization, as guests on Hadassah On Call to share insights from Words for Hope and Talking to Kids During Crisis, new guidebooks created by Hadassah International’s Young Hadassah Without Borders Program to help parents, teachers and caregivers have these difficult conversations about crisis, grief or similar situations.

Speak out against antisemitism when you see it and when you hear it!

The attack at Central Synagogue in NYC during Friday night services is deeply disturbing. No one in any faith community should have to wonder whether they are safe simply because they have come together to worship. We are grateful for the swift response of law enforcement and synagogue security and for everyone who worked to protect those inside.

This is yet another troubling incident as antisemitism continues to rise. We cannot ignore the connection between words that vilify, dehumanize and demonize the Jewish community and the actions that can follow. Nor can we ignore the role that inflammatory anti-Israel rhetoric plays in fueling antisemitism.

We each have a responsibility to speak out against antisemitism. In the public and private sector, those in leadership carry a responsibility to call it out and reject rhetoric that puts Jewish people in danger.

Michael Kimmel, author of Playmakers: The Jewish Entrepreneurs Who Created the Toy Industry in America, and Renée Rosen, whose Let's Call Her Barbie is a fictionalized account of Ruth Handler's creation of the iconic Barbie doll, will discuss the Jewish figures behind leading toy companies like Hasbro and Mattel as well as their classic products, from G.I. Udi Knebel: Next Generation at the Hadassah Medical Organization

You might have heard him sing and play the piano at Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) events in Israel, but you probably didn’t realize that Dr. Udi Knebel, 27, was an HMO medical student and is now an intern physician.

Ten years ago, he was accepted into Tzameret, the IDF's Elite Academic Officers Program, based at HMO, in which medical students study first and then serve in the IDF as physicians.

Meet Udi Knebel, an intern physician at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Israel who excels in medicine, research and music.
