Thank you, Residents of Northbridge! ❤️🐏
Yesterday, Northbridge voted YES on Question 1, and this community helped make it happen.
To everyone who liked, shared, commented, spoke with neighbors, put up signs, volunteered, came to meetings, and helped out in ways big and small - thank you.
To everyone who asked tough questions, dug into the details, and took the time to see why this vote matters beyond just the classroom.

This is what being a community is all about. Thank you, Northbridge! 💪🐏🫶

Election Day is today.
The future of our town is on the ballot.

Over the past year, we have focused on one central message: our town’s future depends on informed, engaged residents who are willing to invest in our schools, students, and community.

We’ve shared facts about the budget, explained the impact of years of cuts and underfunding, highlighted concerns around school choice losses and unmet net school spending, and discussed what continued reductions would mean for students, staff, sports, arts, extracurriculars, and educational opportunities across the district.

We’ve also worked to amplify the voices of parents, educators, students, and taxpayers who care deeply about maintaining strong public schools and a strong community. Throughout this conversation, we’ve encouraged respectful dialogue, transparency, civic participation, and thoughtful research ahead of Election Day. And now, here we are.

🗳️The polls are open 7am-8pm

Let’s get this done. Vote YES on Question 1 ❤️🐏

This is what’s on the line for Northbridge.

If the override fails, the district’s proposed reductions include 12 staff positions:
- 3 classroom teachers - NES (Kindergarten, Grade 2, Grade 4)
- 4 instructional assistants - NES (Kindergarten)
- 1 computer/technology teacher - NES/NMS
- 2 core teachers - NHS (ELA, Social Studies)
- 1 behavior technician - NHS
- 1 instructional coach - District (Grades 6–12)

In addition, 6 high school sports teams will be eliminated:
- Freshmen Football
- Cross Country
- Indoor Track
- JV Field Hockey
- JV Lacrosse
- JV Softball
- Faculty manager position

Additional Impacts:
- Reduced budgets for building maintenance, technology, instructional software, library books, NHS drama, NMS summer school, and more; the cuts reach into every corner of the district.

This is about maintaining the educational experience our students deserve and ending the cycle of cuts, but it is also about meeting the state’s minimum required school spending level. Remember, if the override fails again, Northbridge is projected to fall below the state minimum spending requirement for a third consecutive year, creating the risk of possible state intervention. That impacts the entire community.

Last year, the override failed by just 180 votes.

Election Day is TOMORROW, MAY 19.
Polls are open 7 AM–8 PM at Northbridge High School.

Please make a plan to vote and encourage others to do the same. Every vote truly matters. 🗳️❤️🐏

Tuesday, May 19, is Election Day in Northbridge, and Question 1 on the ballot is a school funding override that affects every resident.

A YES vote does two important things:
⚖ It reduces the risk of state penalties.
Northbridge missed the state's minimum required net school spending last year and isn’t projected to meet it this year. A YES vote keeps Northbridge below the threshold that triggers consequences, including the potential loss of state aid and potential non-approval of the town’s tax rate.

🍎 It maintains level services for our schools. A YES vote will stabilize the school budget for at least the next five years, and prevent planned cuts for next year, including 12 staff positions, 6 NHS sports teams, and reduced budgets for technology, library books, NHS drama, NMS summer school, and more.

TJ is reflecting on the impact the elimination of middle school sports had on his, and his peers’, experience after last year's override failed. That's not a hypothetical future cut; it already happened.

If the override fails again, high school sports are severely impacted with six teams eliminated:
- Freshman Football
- Cross Country
- Indoor Track
- JV Field Hockey
- JV Lacrosse
- JV Softball

A YES vote on Question 1 stabilizes the
budget and prevents the next round of cuts to critical extracurriculars.

This is not about extras. Sports and extracurricular activities help students build discipline, teamwork, leadership, and time-management skills that often carry over into the classroom and future careers. Research consistently shows that students involved in extracurriculars tend to have higher attendance, stronger academic performance, greater connection to their school community, and lower rates of risky behavior or dropping out. Let’s make sure NHS students continue to have these opportunities.
