Drumming is the perfect physical activity for seniors. Drumming exercises can easily be adapted to the abilities of each senior, but it’s important to understand how to properly play the drums in order to avoid injury! A drumming instructor is akin to a personal trainer, aiding in understanding the instrument and achieving musical goals. Just as a trainer assists in fitness milestones, a drum teacher provides direction toward becoming a proficient drummer. Here are the 3 most important things a drum teacher can help with:

Gradual Progression:
Just like starting a fitness routine, drumming begins with a slow pace. Initial stages may not be thrilling, but with consistent practice, skills develop.

Emphasis on Form:
Both fitness routines and drumming require proper form for progress. Incorrect form in exercise can hinder results and cause injury.

Warm-Up Rituals:
Prior to engaging in strenuous exercises or drumming performances, warming up is essential. Seniors should incorporate warm-ups and finger exercises to relax muscles before drumming sessions, contributing to improved performance. Whether at the gym or behind the drum kit, warming up is a shared practice in both endeavours.

To ensure your seniors stay away from injuries, we recommend that you follow the guidelines in our free drumming activity e-book here: (scroll to the bottom of the homepage) https://www.respectfulbeats.com/
