Today, we’re proud to introduce Bear FC. 🐻⚽
What started as a football session has become a community. We’ve seen dads turn up for the first time, friendships form, and conversations happen that might never have happened anywhere else. As it’s grown, it felt important to give it a name that every dad and every supporter could call their own. A name where every child and every story has a place.
The name carries more than one meaning.
The bear symbolizes strength, comfort and protection. Bear itself is also a quiet nod to bereavement, echoing the beginning of the word.
FC stands for Fatherhood Collective because this has always been about more than football. It’s about creating a place where bereaved dads can come together, supported by friends and fathers who want to stand alongside them. Together, we build friendships, share stories, and remind each other that no dad has to carry grief alone.
We’re also proud to follow in the footsteps of groups like Féileacáin Fathers, whose work has shown the power of football in bringing bereaved dads together. Their example has inspired communities far beyond Ireland, and we hope Bear FC can continue that mission here in Chicago.
Thank you to every dad, friend, and supporter who has shown up, shared a story, kicked a ball, or simply stood beside someone who needed it. You’ve helped build something really special.
Welcome to Bear FC.
A place where every dad can honour their child, their story, and know they never have to grieve alone.
