🏟️ The Main Stage: Jr. Ranger Varsity Tackle (6th Grade)

This is the moment it all comes together! Our Varsity Tackle Division is the final stage of our youth program, where the years of preparation in Padded Flag and Rookie Tackle pay off. It’s time for our 6th graders to take the "Full Field" and showcase their skills.

🏈 The "Big" Game

For the first time, our athletes transition to the traditional game they see on Saturdays and Sundays:Format: 11-on-11 (Full Team)The Field: A full-sized, 100-yard football field. The Goal: Moving from general fundamentals to honing their craft at dedicated positions.

🧠 Ownership & Development

At the Varsity level, we raise the bar. This division is designed to acclimate players to larger groups and the discipline required for middle school ball. We encourage our Rangers to:Own their development both on and off the field.Practice their craft at home to stay sharp.Understand their specific role and responsibility to the team.

⚖️ Weight Restrictions & Safety

In the Varsity Division, safety and fair competition remain our top priorities as the kids grow and the game speeds up. To keep the playing field balanced, we use a 130-pound weight limit (in full game-day gear) to determine position eligibility.

For our athletes under 130 pounds:
These players are eligible to play in the offensive or defensive backfield and are the only players permitted to advance the football. If your son is a speedy runner or a quick defensive back, this is where he’ll shine!

For our "Big Men" over 130 pounds:
We believe every great team is built from the trenches out! Players over the weight limit bring the power to the line of scrimmage. On offense, they anchor the team as a Center, Guard, or Tackle. On defense, they control the game as a Defensive Lineman or Linebacker.

By clearly defining these roles based on size and equipment weight, we ensure that every hit is safer and every player is matched up where they can most effectively—and safely—contribute to the team's success.

🌟 The Fruits of Our Labor

Our mission is to ensure every player is prepared to play at a higher and safer level. By the time they finish their Varsity season, they aren't just football players—they are healthy, well-rounded individuals ready for the next chapter of their athletic careers.

🏈 Level Up: Jr. Ranger Rookie Tackle (5th Grade Only!)

The transition to tackle football is a big milestone, and at Jr. Ranger Football, we’ve designed the perfect "bridge" to ensure your athlete is confident, skilled, and safe. Welcome to Rookie Tackle!

🎓 The 5th Grade Advantage

Unlike many programs that mix ages, our Rookie Tackle division is exclusively for 5th graders.

Learning Together: Your son will be playing alongside peers who are all in their first year of tackle. No one is "behind," and everyone starts on a level playing field.

The Two-Year Plan: By starting in 5th grade, players get two full years to master fundamentals before middle school, setting them up for long-term success.

🛡️ Safety & Full Contact

Make no mistake—this is full-contact tackle football. However, we use a modified format to keep safety at the forefront:

The Gear: Since they’ve played Padded Flag, they already know the equipment!

The Build-Up: We spend the early weeks focusing strictly on form and confidence. We don't start tackling until they are truly ready.

Focused Coaching: By playing 7-on-7 on a smaller field (40 x 35 1/3 yards), we reduce the "chaos" of the game. This allows coaches to work in smaller groups and ensure every child is using proper, safe technique.

⚖️ Important Weight Restrictions

To keep the game fair and safe for all participants, we enforce the following weight limits for offensive "skill" positions:

Skill Position Limit: 120 lbs (This includes all gear: helmet, pads, cleats, etc.).

Defense: There is no weight limit for defensive positions.

🚀 The Final Progression

Rookie Tackle is the ultimate bridge. It takes the lessons from Padded Flag and incorporates the fundamentals of tackling before moving to the traditional 11-on-11 game. It’s about building a better, safer football player—one rep at a time.

🏈 Introducing the Jr. Ranger Padded Flag Division! (Grades 3 & 4)

Are you ready to take the next step in the Ranger journey? We are thrilled to bridge the gap between traditional flag and tackle with our Limited Contact Padded Flag program!

🛡️ Why Padded Flag?

Safety isn’t just a goal; it’s our foundation. Before moving into Rookie Tackle, the USA Football Limited Contact model gives players a vital transition year. By putting on the pads now, kids learn how to properly use their equipment for protection, promote "Heads Up" football, and build the confidence they need to stay healthy and competitive for years to come.

⚠️ What does "Limited Contact" actually mean?

We want our parents to have a clear picture of the game! While the primary goal is still to pull the flag, this is a physical step up from non-padded leagues. Because the kids are in full gear, you can expect:

Incidental Contact: Brief contact to the helmet or body during play.

Blocking: Physical engagement between players (blocking to the ground is possible).

Inadvertent Tackling: Sometimes, while reaching for a flag, a player may accidentally be brought to the ground.

These moments are exactly why the equipment is so important—it allows players to learn how to handle contact safely in a controlled environment.

📋 The Game Day Details

Format: 7-on-7

The Field: Modified size (40 x 35 1/3 yards)

Direction: One-way play for maximum focus and reps.

Parents: We can’t stress enough how valuable even one year of padded flag is for your child's long-term safety and development. Let’s give them the tools to play the game they love the right way!

🏈 GEAR UP, JR. RANGERS! 🏈

Registration is officially open for the North Ridgeville Jr. Ranger Football & Cheer season! We are proud members of the Lake Erie Youth Football League (LEYFL), dedicated to preparing your athlete for middle school and beyond—both mentally and physically.

Our mission is simple: Teach the game the right way, keep our kids safe, and make sure they love every minute on the field!

📅 KEY DATES
Practice Starts: July 27th

Schedule: 4 weeks of pre-season training followed by a 7-week regular game schedule and 3-week playoff for qualifying teams.

Gamedays: Saturdays (Some travel to surrounding LEYFL communities required).

🛡️ OUR PROGRESSIVE DIVISIONS
We follow the USA Football Development Model to ensure every child transitions safely into the sport:

1. Padded Flag (3rd & 4th Grade | 7v7)

The Bridge: The most important safety step! Athletes wear full gear to learn how to use equipment properly and master "heads-up" football without full tackling.

Format: 7v7 on a modified 40-yard field.

2. Rookie Tackle (5th Grade | 7v7)

The Intermediate Step: A bridge between flag and full-field tackle. This allows coaches to teach tackling fundamentals in smaller groups.

Format: 7v7 on a modified 40-yard field.

Weight Limit: 120 lbs (in full gear) for skilled offensive positions. No limit for defense.

3. Varsity Tackle (6th Grade | 11v11)

The Big Stage: It all comes together here! Players hone their specific positions on a full-sized 100-yard field, preparing for the leap to middle school ball.

Format: 11v11 on a full size football field.

Weight Limit: 130 lbs (in full gear) to advance the ball or play in the backfield. Players over 130 lbs dominate the line (Offensive/Defensive Line or Linebacker).

📣 WHY JR. RANGERS?
We don’t just coach football; we build well-rounded, healthy individuals. Whether it's on the field or on the sidelines with Cheer, we prioritize safety, responsibility, and—most importantly—FUN.
