💔 25 Years Old.
Another construction worker killed. Another family shattered.
According to reports, a 25-year-old construction worker was struck and killed in a work zone on Interstate 70 near downtown Columbus early Saturday morning. A maroon Toyota sedan entered the active work zone where crews were present, swerved, struck the worker and a generator, and fled the scene. The worker was pronounced dead around 2:12 a.m. The driver has not yet been identified.
Let this be clear:
🚨 You will be caught. And you will be brought to justice.
This was a 25-year-old man simply doing his job in a clearly marked construction zone, trying to earn a living. Someone’s son. Someone’s friend. Someone who should still be here.
This is exactly why Ohio House Bill 82 matters.
House Bill 82 strengthens how Ohio treats dangerous driving in work zones by
➡️ Adding mandatory driver safety courses for people who speed or commit violations in work zones
➡️ Escalating consequences for repeat offenders, including longer license suspensions
➡️ Giving law enforcement stronger tools to deter reckless behavior before lives are lost
Work zones are inherently dangerous. Narrow lanes, shifting traffic patterns, heavy equipment, and workers often just feet from vehicles traveling at highway speeds.
From 2020 to 2024, Ohio recorded more than 22,000 work zone crashes, resulting in over 100 fatalities and thousands of injuries. Nearly three quarters of citations issued in work zones are for speeding.
This cannot be normal.
We build roads so families can travel safely, not so road crews become memorials.
Slow down.
Move over.
Pay attention.
Because behind every barrel is a life. 🧡
