Dr. Scott Humphries, former MSO conductor, returns to the Cordier stage Sunday as the featured soloist on alto saxophone for “Suite from A Place in the Sun.”
The Fort Wayne resident is a music specialist for Fort Wayne Community Schools. His multifaceted career has included being a band and orchestra director at the middle school, high school, and college levels. He has taught music at all levels, from kindergarten through graduate students.
With more than three decades of experience in music education, his focus is community building through music. Humphries earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music education at Boston University. He received a Master of Arts in Education from Virginia Tech, and a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University.
He studied saxophone with Gunnar Mossblad and Chip McNeill. He studied piano with Nadine Lockhart, Marion Perkins, Mary Louise Hallauer, and Ruth Slenczynska. He studied conducting with Dr. Patrick Rooney and James Glazebrook.
Humphries was named the 2020 Indiana Music Educators Association College/University Outstanding Music Educator. He has published works for young bands through MSB Publishing, Inc.
