🎶 JAZZ AT THE GARDEN 🎶

We were honored to feature Edward “EJ” Sharp and Khollin Franklin for an incredible night of smooth jazz, gospel, and powerful musicianship. Beyond the music, we had the opportunity to talk with them about what jazz means to them, their journeys as young artists, and what’s next in their careers.

EJ, now a freshman at Arkansas State University, continues to grow as an emerging musician, while Khollin Franklin prepares to graduate from Maumelle High School before heading to Berklee College of Music on a full-tuition scholarship this fall. We’re proud to celebrate and support the next generation of jazz artists right here in Arkansas.

Thank you to everyone who came out, listened, supported, and helped make another unforgettable night of music and community possible. This is what jazz is all about.

April is more than a regular month, it is a reminder of why we do this. For Jazz Appreciation Month, we didn’t just celebrate the music, we celebrated the musicians behind it. At our last Jazz at the Garden, we asked musicians one simple question: “What does jazz mean to you?”

What you’ll hear in this video is more than answers, it’s legacy, freedom, culture, discipline, community, and truth. Every voice, every perspective, every note connects back to something bigger than all of us. Jazz isn’t just something you hear, it’s something you carry. Thank you to everyone who shared, played, listened, and continues to keep this music alive.

The Baritone Foundation has received our very first grant!

We were awarded a mini grant from the Arkansas Arts Council for their Arts in Education program.

Partnering with the Little Rock Community Studio, The Baritone Foundation has brought Jazz into North Little Rock High School and North Little Rock Middle School through a new after-school Jazz club. We’ve even established masterclasses to get NLRHS students extra Jazz instruction!

Support for The Baritone Foundation is provided, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency by the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

🎶This is Jazz at The Garden🎶

The room was warm, the music was flowing, and the vibe was just right. Last month’s jam featured Chris Miller alongside The Baritone Jazz Junction, filling the Rose Garden with great tunes, great people, and that late-night jazz atmosphere we’ve come to love.

From students to seasoned players, the jam session kept the energy alive all night long. Moments like these are what make this community so special.

If you see someone you know, tag them and share! And if you missed this one, don’t worry—there’s always another jam coming.

We’re celebrating America’s first true art form: Jazz — born from the brilliance, resilience, and creativity of Black culture. This music tells a story. And tomorrow, we continue it together.

High school, college, professionals, and community members — bring your horn, your voice, your sticks, your friends. Or just come listen and soak it in.

This is more than a jam. It’s legacy. It’s culture. It’s community.

Nonstop Jazz. Nonstop Education. Nonstop Community.

🎺 Jazz Program Spotlight: Southwest High School Jazz Band 🎺

Our second Jazz Program Spotlight Features Jose Holloway and the Southwest High School Jazz Band—a program rooted in consistency, high expectations, and authentic jazz instruction.

This ensemble reflects what happens when students are challenged to listen deeply, play with intention, and honor the tradition while finding their own voice. The result is a band that doesn’t just perform jazz—but understands it.

Southwest’s jazz program is growing to stand as a model of how strong leadership and long-term vision can shape confident, expressive young musicians.

🎸🎶Jazz Program Spotlight: Magnolia Middle School Jazz Band 🎶🎸

Our very first Spotlight features DeAndre' Royster , Band Director for the Magnolia School District, and also features the Magnolia Middle School Jazz Band.

His program proves that jazz education doesn’t have to wait. Through strong fundamentals, ensemble awareness, and early exposure to improvisation, these students are developing musicianship, discipline, and confidence at a young age—laying a foundation that will last a lifetime.

This spotlight series celebrates the educators who plant the seeds early and build meaningful jazz experiences for their students inside and outside of the classroom!
