📚✏️ Meet the Team Behind This Summer’s Stories!

Our Little Rock and Pine Bluff Summer Staff Teams are officially ready to launch another exciting season of Literacy Playground! 🎉

Our team is kicking off this week with DIBELS assessments at our four program locations as we prepare to welcome students into the Young Authors Club next week.

This summer, students won’t just build reading skills—they’ll become storytellers, creators, and confident young authors. 📖

Follow along all summer long as we share student achievements, memorable moments, and the incredible progress our young readers are making. ❤️

Meet Meagan, our new Community Literacy Workshop Teacher. 🩵

8 years of literacy intervention. A deep passion for the kids who need it most. And now she’s bringing that expertise straight to Arkansas families.

Our Community Literacy Workshops are free, hosted at local libraries and organizations near you, and designed specifically for families with kids in 1st through 3rd grade. Meagan will share resources families can use to boost literacy at home while also gaining understanding of standardized testing/ATLAS.

Plus, every family who attends gets 4 complimentary Travelers Baseball tickets for a July game. ⚾

Full event calendar linked in bio at www.arkidsread.org/community-literacy-workshop/

We are so glad she’s here. Welcome, Meagan! 🎉

Meet Jamicia! 👋

We are SO excited to welcome Jamicia Joshua to the AR Kids Read family as our new Central Program Coordinator! 🎉

Jamicia is joining us with a powerhouse background in education and a heart for making sure every child — and every tutor — has what they need to succeed. She’ll be the backbone of our Central Arkansas tutoring programs, connecting volunteers, supporting our sites, and keeping the mission moving forward every single day.

Big things ahead with Jamicia on the team! Drop a 👋 in the comments to welcome her!💙📚

A few months ago, Gio didn't want to read. Arms crossed. Checked out.

His tutor, Dannette, showed up anyway, week after week, patient, certain he could do it.

On their last day together this spring, Gio chased her down the hall. He had a note he'd written himself:

"I appreciate the help on my reading and I just wanted you to know that you're the best reader ever!"

That note says everything about why we do this work. 🩵

Huge appreciation for our incredible volunteers from Gallagher and AMG Plumbing who showed up for Serve the Rock Community Impact Day Little Rock Regional Chamber

With tutor Anita Urban leading the way, this amazing crew helped us organize 2,000+ new books and prep 1,000+ handmade paper books for our summer literacy students. Feeling grateful, energized, and so ready for all the summer stories ahead 🌞 📚

Grades are important, but they don’t tell the whole story. In Arkansas, 72% of parents say their child earns mostly B’s or better. But grades don’t always show if a child is reading at grade level. Ask your child’s teacher if your child is reading at grade level, and make a plan together to support their learning. Find tools and resources at GoBeyondGrades.org/Arkansas

As we head into the last month of school, it’s a great time for parents to check in with teachers about how to support their child’s reading over the summer. AR Kids Read also offers Community Literacy Workshops to help families understand ATLAS scores and build strong reading habits at home.

In Arkansas, 84% of parents believe their child is reading on grade level, but state test results show that fewer than one-third of students are meeting grade-level expectations. With new reading requirements under the LEARNS Act and added supports for students who need extra help, it’s more important than ever to understand where your child stands.

Know the score, Grow your reader! Start by checking your child’s progress, then make a plan together to support their success. GoBeyondGrades.org/Arkansas

AR Kids Read also hosts Community Literacy Workshops where families can learn how to understand ATLAS test results and get practical tips to support reading at home. Learn more at ARKidsRead.org/Community-Literacy-Workshop.
