Ended the year with a good training day. Remi got to run a trail and Ichabod had a lot of distractions to work through to find the human remains. They both did their job and had fun doing it. Happy New Year to everyone and stay safe.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the department and his family.

Early this morning, we lost Ptl. Sean VanDenberg. He has passed on to patrol the streets in heaven. Sean fought a tough battle, but in the end he was needed somewhere else. Sean was a treasured asset to our department and our community. Sean will be greatly missed and we won’t be able to replace his contagious smile or laughter at the station.

Details will be coming soon for services and a go-fund me page that will be set up in his name to help the family with medical expenses.

When a police officer dies, it is not just those close to him that feel it - it is the entire community that feels that loss. Sean, we love you and we will take it from here.

We went out and got a little muddy today. It was a tough training day for K9 Ichabod. I placed a few teeth in a ditch near the road and put 2 deer feet close them as a distraction. He was able to work through all the distractions and find the teeth.

To some, they are just dogs, to others they are just pets, but to me they are my family and team mates. When each team member does their part, people are brought home safely. To the people who are brought home safe, they are angels.

K9 Ichabod searching a 4 acre field for a piece of a bloody rag. You can definitely tell he is still a puppy. There was a lot of butterfly chasing going on. This just gave me the opportunity to work on the leave it and get back to work commands. He did find it, but didn't give me his alert by sitting. This is a fairly new scent for him. This is why we train though. Every training session I Iearn something new to work on. You just have to work hard and train harder. I love pushing my dogs to the limits to see their capabilities. Overall I think he did a pretty good job.
