As we come to a close on Disability Pride Month, we celebrate the many voices that make up the disability community, including people with FASD.

FASD is part of the disability community, and every conversation that increases understanding helps create a more inclusive world.

By recognizing neurodiversity, challenging misconceptions, and replacing barriers with support, we can help ensure people with FASD have the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and belong.

As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, let's carry these conversations forward every day of the year.

❤️ Help Make Family Day Possible ❤️

Six years ago, our FASD Awareness Family Day began with just three families.

This year, we’re preparing to welcome approximately 250 people to a completely FREE Community Resource Fair & Family Celebration on September 5.

Families will enjoy food, activities and entertainment while connecting with healthcare providers, disability organizations, employment resources, advocates and other community services—all without any expectation of spending money.

And we need community partners to help make it happen.

Nevada Families for FASD Awareness is a 100% volunteer-led nonprofit, and sponsorships help us provide Family Day at no cost to the families who attend.

Sponsorship opportunities begin at $250, and every level of support makes a difference. We also welcome businesses interested in providing useful in-kind support.

Many people are judgmental about FASD – specifically about mothers of people with FASD in particular. They ask, "Why would anyone drink when they're pregnant?"

In this video from National Organisation for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Australia, Dr Hester Wilson speaks to a panel of four biological mothers of children with FASD – and asks them exactly that.

The four panel members share their stories of alcohol use in pregnancy: the impact of unplanned and unexpected pregnancy, lack of awareness of the potential harms, and being alcohol-dependent without support due to feelings of shame.

The questions get stigma out in the open – and the results confirm what we know: no woman intentionally harms her baby, and birth mothers who've had a child with FASD need support and compassion, not judgment. 💛
