Sibling separation in foster care is one of the most serious problems facing the child welfare systems. After being removed from the only home and parents they know, children are isolated from their siblings, having to cope with additional loss and abandonment. Neighbor To Family leads the nation in successfully confronting this serious emotional issue. Brothers and sisters are a child's first real partners in life, forming a bond uniquely different from the parents. Siblings create a special support system and tearing children from their siblings is a traumatic loss threatening emotional and social development, often creating problems lasting long into adulthood. Siblings kept together in foster care tend to have far fewer emotional and behavioral difficulties than those placed apart.
