Puget Sound Honor Flight America is losing approximately 200 WWII veterans per day. The median age of our Korean War veteran is nearing 90 years old. Thank you.

Puget Sound Honor Flight treats local senior veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam to a complimentary 3-day trip to DC - visiting the memorials built in their honor, and finding healing, closure, and long-overdue recognition. And our Vietnam veterans have been on our waitlist for now four years. Time is not on our side and there is a great deal of urgency to raise the necessary funds to take our heroes on their cathartic journey. Nationally, The Honor Flight Network has a substantial waiting list, and it is up to the regional hubs to plan and execute trips for veterans from each area. In March of 2013, Puget Sound Honor Flight, serving Western Washington, formed and in October of the same year, made its inaugural trip. Thirty trips later, our waiting list still tops 500 applicants — all Vietnam veterans. We are thankful for the continued interest in an honoring for these veterans. Puget Sound Honor Flight relies on your tax deducible donations to ensure that these men and women are honored with this important experience. How to Donate:

A compilation of our arrival and first day of touring comin’ at ya! To say it was a “Seattle-like” day in DC would be soft-selling it! It was rainy! But trying to think of everything imaginable, we did pack the rain ponchos, thankfully.

We didn’t let the rain completely stop us though, we just adjusted a little! Everyone is dry, warm and toasty now — back at the hotel preparing for their banquet dinner. ❤️

Our slight lack of postings today has nothing to do with the time of our life we are having! It has everything to do with it be “about” 148 degrees with 162% humidity in DC today! 🥵 Melting! Even our ice cream sandwiches enjoyed on that rocking Red Bus … melted quickly! 😂

Do you remember?

Twenty-five years ago, in the middle of the worst day many of us can remember, something remarkable happened: we stopped being strangers.

Neighbors carried water to firefighters they'd never met. Lines wrapped around blood banks for blocks. Boats that had never run a rescue mission in their lives ferried half a million people off Manhattan in a single afternoon; the largest sea evacuation in history, done by ordinary people who just showed up. Flags went up on porches that hadn't flown one in years, because people needed a way to say we're in this together.

That's the part of September 11th we choose to carry forward: not what was taken from us, but the love and support that poured out to fill the space it left.

Twenty-five years later, that same instinct is what puts our senior veterans on a plane to see their memorials, and fills an airport with strangers waving flags to welcome them home.

We didn't forget how to show up for each other. We just needed a reason to remember — and tomorrow we gather early at the airport to welcome 74 veterans on their Honor Flight! 🇺🇸
