Happy tails Hugo!

🎉🐾 HUGO GOT ADOPTED! 🐾🎉

After spending more than five months waiting for his forever family, Hugo has officially found his happy ending! ❤️

Hugo came to us on January 6th, and while his journey to adoption took a little longer than we hoped, it was worth the wait. This sweet boy finally found the family he has been dreaming of, and we couldn’t be happier for him!

Thank you to everyone who shared his posts, cheered him on, and helped spread the word. Most importantly, a huge THANK YOU to Hugo’s new family for opening your hearts and home to him. We know he is going to be loved beyond measure and have the wonderful life he deserves.

Happy tails, Hugo! We can’t wait to see all the adventures ahead for you. 🐶❤️🏡

This is why we do what we do. Congratulations, Hugo! 🥹🐾❤️

Right now, Norman Animal Welfare is caring for 227 animals.

That includes:
🐶 81 dogs
🐱 146 cats

To put that into perspective, our shelter was designed to comfortably house approximately:
• 60 dogs
• 44 cats

And that number only works if every kennel holds just one animal.

We have already converted every possible space and are relying heavily on foster homes to keep animals safe and cared for. Currently:
• 104 cats are in foster homes
• 8 dogs are in foster homes

Even with that incredible community support, our shelter is still at maximum capacity.

Kitten season is hitting hard across Oklahoma, and animals continue to come through our doors every single day. Our staff is working tirelessly, but we urgently need help from our community.

Here’s how you can help right now:
❤️ Adopt
❤️ Foster
❤️ Reclaim lost pets quickly
❤️ Share our adoptable animals
❤️ Support local rescues pulling from our shelter

Every adoption opens a kennel. Every foster home saves a life.

We are incredibly grateful for this community and the people who continue to step up for animals when they need it most.

Today was one of those days that reminds us why this community is so special.

We asked for help and you answered in a huge way. Because of our fosters, volunteers, and supporters, 24 tiny kittens left the shelter today and went into loving foster homes.

Instead of growing up in a kennel, they will have warm blankets, full bellies, soft voices, late night bottle feedings, and someone to love them while they grow strong enough for forever homes.

Kitten season can feel overwhelming at times, but days like today give us hope. Every single person who shared our post, signed up to foster, donated supplies, or opened their home helped save lives today.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for showing up for the most vulnerable animals in our community. These babies have a future because of you. ❤️🐾

Who remembers the story of Atlas?

This young pup arrived at Norman Animal Welfare needing extensive medical treatment and was one of the very first cases we were able to assist with. He’d been attacked by another dog and then immediately run over by a car as he tried to get away.

Situations like these are sometimes beyond what Norman Animal Welfare is capable of providing financially, and this is where we step in! Without NAWS the outcome would have been much different for sweet Atlas. We’re happy to say that he was able to make a full recovery and has even recently graduated obedience school!

Your donations DO make a difference, and saved the life of Atlas. With your continued support, we will save the lives of many more. ❤️‍🩹

Gus Gus is here to save the day!

While he might look very official and sophisticated in his cape, the truth is that he is heavily dependent on his wonderful fosters right now.

Norman Animal Welfare currently has 71 kittens in foster care. Finding that many fosters is only half of the struggle.

This is where Norman Animal Welfare Society has the ability to step in and provide our support so that shelter staff can focus on keeping these kittens healthy while we take care of gathering needed supplies for fosters.

By making a tax-deductible donation using one of the methods listed below, we can continue to provide the support and supplies necessary to prepare so many helpless kittens for adoption. We have also attached an Amazon wishlist with high-demand supplies as well! No matter how you choose to contribute, you’ll be a super hero to Gus Gus and so many others!

❤️Shared. Seen. Saved. Thank you—BAHAMA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!❤️

🚨EUTHANASIA DEADLINE PLEA – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

Unfortunately, we need to talk about Bahama. This is the hardest part of our job, but we want to be completely transparent and need your help to bring attention to her. Bahama is a 7½-year-old, 60 lb pit bull mix who has been with us since December. She has not had a privileged life, and more than anything, we just want to find her a soft place to land—a home where she can finally rest, feel safe, and be loved for the rest of her life.

💔 Bahama needs a committed adopter by end of day Monday, May 4th to avoid euthanasia.

The shelter environment is taking a toll on her. The stress and anxiety of kennel life have led to destructive behavior in her kennel, which is a reflection of how overwhelmed she is—not who she is in a home. She has been in and out of foster, and it’s clear she does best outside of the shelter. What she truly needs is stability—a permanent home where she can finally exhale.

🐾 She is loving, loyal, and people-focused—your typical pittie who just wants to be close to her humans
🐾 She does well around other dogs
🐾 NO CATS

Today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and while we celebrate so many lives, our biggest wish is simple:
👉 That Bahama finds the right home before it’s too late.

Please, please share her story. Talk to your friends, your family, your coworkers.
Her person might not even know she exists yet.

💛 If you can adopt Bahama, please reach out immediately. Time is critical. She deserves comfort. She deserves love. She deserves a chance.

Norman Animal Welfare, 3428 Jenkins Ave, Norman, OK 73072
5 PM Monday (5/4/2026).

Please don’t wait! Please share. Please step up. Her life truly depends on it.

Please help save Bahama! 🐾
