Our archery kiddos have been adding a fun (and purposeful!) twist to practice—running before they shoot to get their heart rates up and mimic that real competition adrenaline rush!

When archers compete—or even when they’re out hunting—it’s not just about aim. It’s about staying focused and steady even when your body is feeling the effects of excitement and nerves. That elevated heart rate can make your hands a little shakier and your breathing quicker, which makes it more challenging to hold a steady shot.

By practicing in this state, our students are learning how to control their breathing, refocus their minds, and maintain proper form under pressure. This kind of training helps build mental toughness, body awareness, and confidence—skills that go far beyond the archery range.

These skills don’t stop at archery either! They carry over into so many different 4-H experiences—from confidently showing in the ring to speaking with a judge about their projects. Learning how to manage nerves and stay composed is a game-changer in any setting.

We’re so proud of the effort, determination, and growth we’re seeing from these athletes. They’re not just learning to shoot—they’re learning how to rise to the moment!
