Family First: What’s Really Going On? Supporting Youth Beyond “Crash Out Culture” in partnership with Southern Regional AHEC!

As more and more youth experience sudden outbursts of anger, frustration, and mental health problems...and often documenting it on social media ...the negative consequences of our cultural dependence on screen use and the impact are becoming clearer. School personnel and behavioral health professionals are often asked to help navigate this complex and evolving landscape and these increasingly dysregulated emotions and behaviors.

The goal of this session is to describe the most common screen uses in youth and share the most recent research as it relates to increasing rates of anxiety, depression, and problematic behaviors. We will explore how to intervene regarding some of the challenges when working with children, teens, and their families.

September is Su***de Prevention Month. Our friends at are hosting a Military Mental Health: Su***de Prevention in Active Military presentation on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 6:00pm-7:30pm.

Learn about warning signs, potential barriers to seeking help, prevention strategies/treatment options, and other resources. This event is in-person or virtual through Zoom.

This seminar is free, but you need to register through the link or QR code on the flyer. If you need help registering, please contact the NAMI Coastal office at 757-499-2041. Light snacks will be offered to those who attend in person.
