I almost couldn’t believe how much changed in my Three Sisters bed…

A few weeks can make a huge difference, and not everything has gone exactly as planned. 🌽🫘🎃

In this update, I’ll show you what’s thriving, what’s struggling, and what I’ve learned so far. If you’re growing a Three Sisters garden—or thinking about trying one—you won’t want to miss this.

Stop planting tomatoes that were never meant to grow in your climate.
Not every tomato variety will thrive in every environment. A tomato that produces incredible harvests in Oregon may struggle in Virginia’s heat and humidity. Before you plant, research which varieties perform best in your region—or grow several different varieties to see which ones thrive in your garden.

Weather can damage a crop quickly, especially if your seeds aren’t planted deep enough. Watch this video to avoid this common mistake.

I’m betting this one garden bed can grow three crops in the same space.

Today I planted beans and squash around corn that’s already 8 inches tall, creating a traditional “Three Sisters” garden. The corn will act as a living trellis for the beans, the beans will help feed the soil with nitrogen, and the squash will spread across the ground to help suppress weeds and retain moisture.

Will these three plants work together the way they have for centuries, or will one take over the bed?

Follow along as we track the progress, harvest, and lessons learned from this ancient gardening method.

Most people spend hundreds of dollars a year on fruit they could be growing right in their own neighborhoods.

Today, we shared 4 pounds of freshly picked organic donut peaches with community members—fruit that would cost about $24 at the grocery store. Yesterday, we harvested another 3 pounds to enjoy with family and friends, saving roughly $18 more.

That’s $42 worth of healthy, locally grown food from just one harvest.

This is why Community Farmers exists. Every fruit tree planted, every garden bed built, and every skill shared helps create a future where fresh food is more accessible, communities are more self-sufficient, and abundance is shared instead of wasted.

Food doesn’t have to travel across the country to reach your table. Sometimes it’s growing right down the street.
