Right now, local food banks are running low on canned goods, and our Pride Pantry is seeing the impact firsthand.

For many, this pantry is how they make it through the week. Seniors, folks facing food insecurity, families, and neighbors landing on hard times rely on these shelves to stay stocked.

We urgently need donations of:
🥫 Canned goods
🥣 Shelf-stable meals
🧼 Personal care items
🍼 Baby supplies
🥛 Shelf-stable milk & juice

Every donation matters. A few extra items in your grocery cart can make a real difference for someone else.

Today is GiveOUT Day. The only national day of giving for the LGBTQ+ community!

Each year we award LGBTQ+ students with our scholarship (to continue their education), host the “Rainbow Prom” for LGBTQ+ teens (NC/VA),
PFLAG Picnic & connect schools by helping them start LGBTQ safe space groups in each of our local high schools.

Today marks the start of Pride Month and the Virginia Zoological Society's Board President, Nicole Carry, would like to share this message:

Diversity makes ecosystems stronger. It makes communities stronger, too.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our commitment to creating a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected.

At the Virginia Zoo, conservation is about more than protecting wildlife. It is about fostering connection, empathy, and stewardship for the world we share. We believe that when people feel they belong, they are more likely to care deeply for each other, for nature, and for the future.

We are proud to be part of a community that continues to grow in understanding, compassion, and inclusion.
