A reminder to all recent participants of our courses, the Bircham centre (reepham) runs a supported volunteer session every Friday between 10am and 1pm in its beautiful walled garden. Lead by Verity ( pictured) it’s a great opportunity to continue to garden, learn, get excited about plants and be part of a super friendly group. No experience necessary / experience welcomed.

Scything green manures with the volunteers today in preparation for next week’s cabbage planting. Tackling thistles and finding satisfaction in the perfect moment to pull them (just as the flowers start forming - but risky if you miss this window of opportunity). Clearing old kale ready to rotate to squash and picking the first 20kg of broad beans… with kg and kg more to come tomorrow for the veg bags. All these tasks made so much easier by the week of welcomed rain. Thanks all, rain and shine a lovely morning.
We have so many broad beans- if you haven’t ordered your veg bags for tomorrow yet it’s not too late!

We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our market garden and growing experience over the last 6 weeks with a fantastic group of gardeners who today, completed their AQA LEVEL 1 creating a kitchen garden (veg and flowers too) course. We look forward to seeing those that can or choose to join us for our regular weekly volunteer session - LEVEL DO! As well as celebrating their achievements in the upcoming cook & eat community feast on the 11th July.

So delighted that as part of Offshore Windfarm funding that we are working in partnership with and John of Gaunt school in Aylsham to deliver horticulture education sessions. Charlotte has been spending 4hrs a week at the school since April evolving a relationship, ideas and growing plants with the kids from nursery through primary ages. This universal offer is open to all children at the school, developing and raising the ambition and good practice in a subject that is generally under resourced. Thank you to the school for jumping in, saying yes and welcoming us in!

We will be announcing a free Level 1 beginners gardening course suited to all- but we would be especially interested to offer places to home education families (age 9+), young people and educators. We are also planning a free summer school for kids and young people at our market garden. Watch this space.
