Sorry we’ve been a little quiet lately.

We’ve had a lot going on behind the scenes, including the possibility of a major Dominion transmission line route affecting our property and the sanctuary.

It’s been a stressful and uncertain stretch, so for now we’re focusing on the animals, taking things one day at a time, and enjoying the peaceful moments when we can.

We’ll share more when we know more. 💛

It’s been about a week since our last post, and honestly… it’s been a busy one around here.

Between the heat wave, the storms, the flooding, the farrier visit, and trying to keep everyone cool, fed, dry, and happy, we’ve mostly just been putting one foot in front of the other. 😅

We finally feel like we’re coming up for air, so I wanted to share a quick update.

Some exciting news… FOUR people have already signed up to be part of our Feed the Herd monthly giving program! 🩷

Thank you so much to those who have joined us already. Knowing there are people who believe in what we’re building here and want to help care for this motley crew month after month means more than you know.

We still have a long way to go toward our goal of 100 people giving $10 a month, but seeing those first four circles filled in is pretty darn exciting.

Meet Apache 🩷

Apache is a Paint gelding in his mid-20s and one of the steady souls of the sanctuary.

Several years ago, Apache and his best friend Diego found themselves in need of a new chapter after being left at a boarding barn by their previous owner. Thankfully, they were able to stay together, and they’ve been side by side ever since.

Apache never had a riding career, but he’s perfected the art of being a loyal friend — to both people and horses.

Easy to handle, happiest outdoors, and rarely in a hurry to be anywhere, Apache brings a calm presence wherever he goes. While some horses demand attention, Apache is content simply being part of the herd, grazing beside Diego, and enjoying the peaceful life he deserves.

We’re pretty fond of him.
