The Trump administration continues to exercise its authority in ways that undermine the stability of Americans and openly disregard the Constitution. This past month, public lands, immigration, and education have been areas of action for this administration.

May 4: The Trump administration has ordered over 76 federally recognized recreational sites to lift bans and restrictions on hunting and gathering laws within the site. Hunters, with some restrictions to protect the habitat or other visitors, are now legally allowed to hunt, process, and clean their kills in these recreational sites. Critics have urged the Department of Interior (DOI) to put these bans back in place, claiming the administration has not done due diligence into this change. Last year alone, over 87,000 acres of new land in wildlife refuges and hatcheries lifted hunting restrictions per the DOI. To read more about this change, use this link: https://tinyurl.com/yeu57yau

May 23: The Trump administration announced that all current US residents must apply for a green card from their home country, and not the US. Yearly, an average of 600,000 people apply for green cards within the US. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has refused to comment on if pending green cards will be affected. In an email to Associated Press, USCIS said that those who provide an “economical benefit” or are a “national interest” could apply within the US. May 27: Trump is planning to phase out the Rural Education Achievement Program, a program designed to fund and aid rural school communities whose state income does not suffice. Currently, Trump is withholding a $2 billion grant from the Department of Education which directly impacts this program. Without these funds, rural communities would not have the resources to pay their teachers or teaching assistants, fund afterschool programs and tutoring, provide adequate classroom supplies and necessities, or allow teachers to attend beneficial conferences or trainings. It is important to know your rights as a protestor. These rights are to protect you and your private information.

Disabling biometrics on your phone, especially in times of heavy police presence, helps protect your private information that could potentially expose you or someone you know. Biometrics includes Face ID, fingerprint scan, or other biological recognition.

Police or ICE agents can force you to open your phone using biometrics, often not requiring a warrant to do so, to access sensitive information like emails, texts, voicemails, contacts, and other personal information.

Pregnant refugees detained by ICE are put into detainment facilities with poor living conditions, often jeopardizing their pregnancy, and in some cases, leading to miscarriages.

Refugees who are also newly moms have had their babies ripped from their arms while they are breastfeeding them.

Despite a 2021 policy implemented by President Joe Biden, expectant mothers are still being detained and put in stressful conditions that jeopardize the health of their baby.

When questioned, the Department of Justice and the Trump Administration has refused to comment whether the policy is still in place.

This upcoming November election, Missouri Republicans are putting abortion back on the ballot; despite Missourians voting to enshrine abortion rights in our constitution in 2024.

In 2024, Missourians voted to protect reproductive healthcare, which includes abortions and gender affirming care to minors.

Now, Missouri Republicans are trying to trick Missouri voters into removing it. In 2024, a YES vote for Amendment 3 supported abortions and women’s healthcare. Now, a YES vote would appeal Amendment 3 from 2024 and strip Missouri women of their reproductive healthcare.

Do NOT let Missouri Republicans trick you. Educate yourself and vote NO on Amendment 3 in November.

In Festus, Missouri, just south of St. Louis, every incumbent on the city council lost their seat after supporting the construction of a data center nearby. During the midterms in April, citizens voted to replace the four incumbents with candidates who ran for transparency, and in opposition of the data center.

Citizens were concerned with the candidates refusing to represent their constituents, as well as the lack of transparency in the discussions between the city and the data center’s company.

Data centers consume extensive quantities of water and electricity, which can overbear power grids and the water supply.

Texas Senate Bill 13, enacted in 2025, prohibits texts that are “profane” and “indecent” from existing school library restrictions that were passed in 2023. The law passed in 2023 required the immediate removal of all books that have been challenged and the option for parents to “opt-out” of materials they don’t want their child checking out. On top of this legislation passed in 2023, Texas SB 13 allows parents, regardless of if they have a background in library sciences, can petition for a parent advisory board to shape the school library’s collection.

At New Braunfels Independent School District, over 1,500 books have been removed from the library shelves due to SB 13. Some banned authors at this school district include Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, George W. Bush, Tom Hanks, William Shakespeare, Muhammed Ali, Scott Kelly, and Katie Ledecky.

The school district has announced they are using Artificial Intelligence to sort through titles.
