Imagine an Artist Garden…

Every garden is a work of art.

Every gardener is an artist.

Now imagine bringing all of those art forms together in one place.

We envision an Artist Garden as one of the signature gardens within Lake County Botanical Garden—a living canvas that changes throughout the seasons as artists, musicians, performers, students, schools, and community organizations bring new ideas to life.

Imagine a sculptor creating an installation surrounded by carefully selected plantings that complement the artwork.

Imagine a painter designing a garden as though flowers were brushstrokes on a canvas.

Imagine local musicians performing among the blooms while the surrounding gardens reflect the mood and rhythm of the music.

Imagine students creating temporary exhibits. Seasonal displays celebrating spring, autumn, or the holidays. Community art projects. Poetry. Photography. Living installations that invite visitors to see the garden in entirely new ways.

We hope this becomes a place where creativity flourishes, where artists collaborate with horticulturists, and where every season offers something new to discover.

Imagine Learning That Grows With Every Age…

Learning doesn’t begin at the garden gate—and it doesn’t end there.

We envision year-round, nature-based educational programming that grows with children from early childhood through high school, connecting classroom learning with hands-on experiences in the garden, on nature trails, and in satellite gardens throughout our community.

Imagine preschool nature exploration, elementary school field trips, summer camps, after-school programs, teen leadership opportunities, and high school internships where older students become mentors for younger campers while developing skills of their own.

Every program would be designed to spark curiosity, encourage stewardship, and help children build a lifelong connection with the natural world.

Winter has a way of slowing us down.

The gardens become quieter. The days grow shorter. Crisp evenings invite us to gather with family and friends, celebrate the season, and appreciate the beauty that can only be found after sunset.

Now imagine that beauty brought to life with thousands of lights.

We envision Winter Wonder as one of Lake County Botanical Garden’s signature seasonal traditions—a place where illuminated pathways lead visitors through glowing gardens, artistic light sculptures, music, warm drinks, and the simple joy of spending an evening outdoors together.

Imagine wandering beneath trees wrapped in soft white lights. Discovering glowing flowers, whimsical woodland creatures, and botanical sculptures created entirely from light. Strolling through gardens that still offer winter beauty while enjoying the warmth of community during the holiday season.

We imagine evenings filled with laughter, children’s activities, seasonal music, local artists and craftspeople, warm cocoa by the fire, and spaces where families can slow down, reconnect, and make memories together.

Perhaps one evening features local choirs. Another celebrates winter storytelling. Another hosts a holiday market showcasing local artisans. As the tradition grows, so too could the experiences that make each visit unique.

More than a holiday event, we hope Winter Wonder becomes a celebration of community—a place where neighbors gather, traditions begin, and people of all ages experience the quiet magic of the garden in an entirely different season.

Imagine a Heritage & Resilience Garden…

Every garden tells a story.

Sometimes it’s a story of where we came from. Sometimes it’s a story of the people who came before us. And sometimes it’s a story of hope—of traditions carried forward, adapted, and shared across generations.

Throughout history, people have turned to gardens for far more than beauty. Plants have provided food, medicine, fiber, dyes, fragrance, ceremony, craftsmanship, and comfort. From the first peoples who have cared for this land since time immemorial to the many cultures that have helped shape Lake County, gardens have always reflected resilience, ingenuity, and a deep connection to place.

We envision a Heritage & Resilience Garden as one of the gardens within Lake County Botanical Garden—a place that celebrates the many cultures, traditions, and stories that together create the rich fabric of our community.

Imagine pathways that weave together culturally significant plants from around the world and from right here in Northern California. A place where visitors can discover how plants have nourished families, inspired traditions, supported crafts, flavored meals, healed communities, and connected generations.

Imagine What a Rose Garden Could Become…

Imagine stopping by Lake County Botanical Garden on a warm spring afternoon. Perhaps you’re taking a quiet walk after a busy day, or simply wandering through the gardens with no destination in mind.

Then you arrive at the Rose Garden.

A kaleidoscope of color greets you. The fragrance of hundreds of blooms drifts through the air. Bees and other pollinators move from flower to flower, while old-fashioned heirloom roses share the garden with elegant modern hybrids—each telling its own story through color, form, and fragrance.

We envision a Rose Garden that celebrates three seasons of spectacular color, offering visitors a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the timeless beauty that roses have inspired for generations.

Some visitors may come for the fragrance.

Some for the history.

Some simply to find a quiet bench and enjoy a moment of peace.

Imagine a Night at the Garden…

Halloween has always been a magical time for children.

Costumes. Pumpkins. Campfires. Stories. Jack-o’-lanterns glowing along a garden path.

For many children, it’s also one of their very first adventures outdoors after dark.

We envision A Night at the Garden as a non-frightening Halloween adventure for families with small children—an evening where fun, imagination, and curiosity come together beneath the autumn sky.

Imagine children exploring lantern-lit garden paths in costume. Listening to stories around a campfire. Decorating pumpkins. Singing songs. Meeting friendly nocturnal animals. Looking for spider webs glistening in the flashlight beam. Listening with “deer ears” to discover just how alive the garden becomes after sunset.

Life doesn’t stop when the sun goes down.

Owls begin to hunt. Bats fill the evening sky. Spiders build intricate webs. Crickets begin their chorus, and the garden takes on an entirely different personality.

We hope A Night at the Garden becomes a tradition that helps children replace fear with curiosity and discover that the nighttime world is every bit as fascinating as the daytime one.

Because one of the first steps toward caring for nature is simply getting to know it.
