MAP recently added to our website the summaries of two cases of historic misconduct that were previously investigated and publicized by conferences now part of Mennonite Church USA.

John Howard Yoder

These are two of the earliest cases from the 1980s and 1990s that received public attention. The complex stories illuminate some important patterns and significant themes related to the methods, theological justifications, and defenses used by abusers as well as the successes and mistakes of the institutions holding them accountable and hearing from victims.

As a community truth-telling project, what MAP most needs at the moment are volunteer readers to look at draft posts, find errors and omissions, and offer feedback. We have a backlog of cases that meet our criteria for publication, but it takes a lot of time to research, draft, and get each one reviewed.

If you are interested in helping out, please let us know.

New report and eight associated cases:

GRACE - Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment completed an independent investigation and in August 2024 released a report of their findings and recommendations related to a number of cases at United Bethel Mennonite Church in Plain City, Ohio. UBMC is affiliated with the Biblical Mennonite Alliance (BMA).

MAP is highlighting and excerpting from the GRACE investigative report to support survivors and to provide accurate information and education for the broader Anabaptist community.

During their investigation, GRACE evaluated allegations of sexual misconduct against ten reported offenders currently or formerly affiliated with UBMC. The report evaluates each allegation for credibility and makes determinations as to whether each allegation meets the GRACE burden of proof for evidence that sexual misconduct or grooming behavior has occurred. The report details credible allegations against eight men:

David George
Paul Edwin George
Shawn Miller
Manny Prado
Danny Kramer
Jerod Corbin
Richard Gingerich
Doran Gingerich
