The LigerBots

The LigerBots Newton's award-winning, competitive FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team (FRC 2877). NNHS & NSHS students are mentored on Business and Technical projects.

Contact us at [email protected] The LigerBots are a FIRST Robotics compeition team made up of students from both Newton North and Newton South High Schools. The team has a diverse group of student members with different backgrounds and interests. The team is supported by dedicated, experienced teachers as well as corporate and community mentors. The annual robot build process is a great project b

ased learning challenge. Students can be involved in the technical aspects (design, mechanical, software, electrical), on the drive team (operates the robot in competitions), focus their time on the business aspects of the team (from graphics to making videos to fundraising, outreach, community relations and marketing/ social media). Each year we fundraise what we need to operate the team. Our current corporate sponsors include Google, Analog Devices, Newton Public Schools, Newton Schools Foundation, PTC, Village Bank, Raytheon, SharkNinja, Whole Foods, Dunkin’ Donuts, McVittie Tax Advisors, Bose, You-do-it Electronics, Home Advisor, Tanowitz Law, Wolf Greenfield, Honda Village and Ameresco. All our sponsors: https://ligerbots.org/current-sponsors. Our sponsors provide financial support as well as engineering and business mentors. The team would not exist without their generous support. The team would also like to extend its utmost gratitude to all of our mentors, who have taught us much of what we now know about the robot, and who make the six-week build season possible.

πŸŒπŸ€– The LigerBots took part in Newton's Earth Day celebration on April 23! Despite the rainy weather, we proudly showcased our robot, Prometheus, on the front steps of Newton City Hall, where students explained the robot and our team to visitors. Inside, our students led a STEAM activity booth, where they guided children in creating DIY solar ovens and learning about the scientific applications of solar energy. We were thrilled to be part of Newton's annual Earth Day Festival, which featured local organizations promoting sustainability.

On Saturday, 4/22, several LigerBots students visited the Museum of Printing in Haverhill, which showcases a rich collection of printing, typesetting, and graphic arts technology dating back 500 years. Students learned about the transition from hand-setting individual sorts of type to mechanized hot-metal typesetting and the incredibly complex mechanisms behind the Linotype, Monotype, and Ludlow line casting machines. Students also met museum president Frank Romano, an industry expert and professor emeritus at RIT who has written over 80 books related to the printing industry. We're incredibly grateful for the experience and insights we gained from our visit!
