In our Support Group this week, we discussed the stage of “Awakening” on the journal of healing from psychological abuse in intimate relationships.

This is when the “aha moment” occurs and survivors are able to start describing what they’ve experienced because they finally understand what they’ve been subjected to.

But the stage is not a straight line

There are days of clarity and purpose, followed by days of confusion and pain.

But it’s the normal process of deprogramming and healing from psychological abuse - allowing you to find your authentic self again.

Such a helpful Support Group this week, focusing on the first stage of recovery from emotional, verbal and psychological abuse- that of Despair.

As a woman starts to unravel what she’s been subjected to in her relationship, and comes to understand that her partner is intentionally harming her, a blanket of despair usually ensues.

Thank you ladies for being vulnerable and sharing this painful part of your journey towards healing….

Great gathering this past Monday night for the start of the new session of our Support Group.

A special welcome to the ladies who are attending for the first time, in order to understand the dynamics of emotional, verbal and psychological abuse and begin the journey of healing from its damage.

Insightful discussion this past Monday at Support Group-
The topic was “what would you do differently or look for” in the early stages of a relationship to avoid an unhealthy and/or potentially abusive man.

Five common comments were:

-watch out for a man rushing things, especially with Love Bombing tactics (especially flattering texts, plans for the future, etc. that are not commensurate with the time you’ve known each other

-look at extreme money behavior (either overboard with grand gestures or being stingy)

-should have more accountability from trusted girlfriends and ask for their observations, concerns and feedback.

-ask questions about their family of origin (was there neglect, abuse)

-overall, go slowly and listen to your gut.

As women, we need to apply constant discernment regarding who is allowed into our inner world!

In abusive relationships, we often "normalize" the harmful treatment as a protective measure. This keeps us stuck.

This is the most compassionate way, to protect your inner sanctum.

You are loving, and caring.

Yet there will be parasites, not open to receive.

We can help them, opening their heart, but if they are not ready yet, you must protect your heart.
