Tapestry Singers Maine Tapestry Singers is a midcoast Maine community choir featuring the works of living composers.

Tapestry Singers is a local community chorus located in beautiful Midcoast Maine. Our goals are to promote the performance and enjoyment of choral music, to bring affordable live choral music performances to community audiences, and to foster interest in and understanding of choral music in the community, especially among students. Tapestry Singers provides and annual cash prize to a local student

who demonstrates outstanding musical talent and potential. Tapestry Singers is a Maine nonprofit corporation and a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

A Note from the Director, Beth Preston:

“I’m so pleased with this semester’s Tapestry Singers! They have taken on some challenging music, singing in Spanish, Mongolian, isiZulu, and syllables based on Indian Ragas. We’re teaming up with New Inca Son, ambassadors of Andean folk music from Boston for Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla. Our guest koto player, Sarah Oeste, and Sean Fleming have collaborated to embellish the accompaniments for the Japanese folksong arrangements by Bob Chilcott. Please join us for this fabulous concert!”

UPCOMING CONCERT FEATURING ONE OF OUR JUNE GUEST ARTISTS SARAH OESTE:

On April 12th at 3:00 PM Sarah Oeste will present an immersive program featuring the Japanese koto as part of Second Congregational Church’s Second Sundays concert series. The national instrument of Japan, the koto is a 13-string zither with ancient roots and a uniquely resonant voice. Joined by her husband, Tom Oeste, Sarah will guide the audience through a seasonal journey—from the timeless elegance of "Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms) to the soaring, high-energy modern duet "Taka” (Falcon). This performance features traditional attire and staging, as well as a live demonstration of the koto’s history, unique tunings, and expressive techniques. Come experience an hour of "Light and Wind" as we celebrate the fresh greenery of spring through the strings of the koto. No advance tickets are available. Instead there is a recommended free-will donation of $20 for adults, $10 for students, and FREE for children below school age.

Here's a clip from our warmup at our weekly rehearsal this past Monday - it's fun to sing in a circle because we can see and hear each other. We're looking forward to our concerts on June 13 and 14!
