GGP to Become Sponsor of Geauga Safety Council
Geauga Growth Partnership (GGP) announced that the organization will be assuming the sponsorship responsibilities for the Geauga Safety Council beginning July 1, 2023. The Geauga Safety Council, supported in part by the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation, is designed to promote strategies that increase safety and health in both the workplace and the community. Over 9,000 Ohio businesses participate in a safety council program, which can provide up to a 3% rebate on a company’s BWC premiums when all requirements of the program are met.
The Geauga Safety Council began under the sponsorship of the Middlefield Chamber of Commerce, in July of 2006 with thanks to the following Charter Members: Dillen Products, Duramax Marine, LLC, Edmonds Elevator Co., Excel Polymers, LLC, Intellipak, Ltd., Johnson Rubber Co., MASCO Retail Cabinet Group, NOF Metal Coatings North America, Polychem Dispersions, Inc., Rhein Chemie Corporation, Waste Management, and Wheeler Landscaping, Inc. Today, over 60 local companies belong to the Geauga Safety Council and benefit from their programing. According to Colleen Lockhart, former Geauga County employee and Geauga Safety Council Board Member, “I have been a part of Geauga Safety Council since it was established in 2006. Over the past 17 years, I have heard what a positive impact our educational programs (promoting health and safety in the workplace) have had for our members. Access to the Bureau of Workers' Compensation safety professionals and the reward program for participation is a bonus.”
The Middlefield Chamber of Commerce determined that they could no longer serve as the Council Sponsor and GGP was contacted by the BWC to determine their interest in continuing the program in Geauga County. Kimm Leininger, President and CEO for GGP stated, “The Geauga Safety Council has been a tremendous resource for the local business community, and we are honored to have the opportunity to keep this valuable resource available for local companies. This is exactly the work our organization does to support the business community. The Geauga Safety Council has done great work over the years, and we are pleased to keep this opportunity here in Geauga County. It adds great value to local businesses by keeping their employees safe, as well as earning a rebate on their BWC premiums.” Leininger added, “We are grateful to the Middlefield Chamber for stepping up and serving as a sponsor to this group for the last 17 years. GGP looks forward to building on the foundation that has been developed for the Geauga Safety Council and growing it to serve even more employers in Geauga County.”
According to Bernard (Bernie) Silkowski, CSP, Superintendent, BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene, “Geauga Growth Partnership is uniquely positioned to expand Geauga Safety Council outreach to employers. We’re excited to partner with them to provide occupational safety education in Geauga County.”
Recruitment for membership to the Fiscal Year 2024 Safety Council is underway and will run through July 31, 2023. There are NO dues and NO enrollment fees associated with becoming a Geauga Safety Council member. Employers may join the Geauga Safety Council at any time. However, to participate in the rebate program, employers must complete and submit an enrollment form no later than July 31, 2023, for the 2024 Fiscal Year.
