Did you know that although Camas is found all up the West Coast, the greatest diversity of Camas Lily is found in Oregon? The two main species we see in the Willamette Valley are Common Camas and the Great Camas.

These sweet bulbs have been providding food for humans and animals alike for thousands of years.

In August we're going to be doing a bit of a deep dive into Camas Lilies! These lovely plants are ecologically important to the Willamette Valley and historically valued by the Kalapuya people.

The Kalapuya people of the Willamette Valley were not simple hunter-gatherers as many tend to believe. They actively managed their environments, using fire to concentrate deer, clear underbrush to increase oak and hazelnut production, stimulate berry production, gather insects, and fertilize to***co plots.
