Thanks to Craig and Barbara Bellis for representing the Newark Citizens Patrol. A friend reported mischief over on Petite during the 1a hour. The sheriff was contacted which is great.

The Bellis reported a quiet night on the town which was outstanding.

Last night Scott Davis teamed up with Lonnie VanSchyver for the Newark Citizens Patrol. With the full moon out they were expecting the crazies to be out. However, it tuned out to be a quiet night. They did come across a friendly young couple down at the boat ramp and few others enjoying the coolness of the night.

Lonnie is a cool dude. Scott snapped this pic of him around 2:30a. Anyone recognize the shirt? If you know, well you know.

Ever wondered what it’s really like to work in law enforcement? The Wise County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Law Enforcement Academy gives members of our community a firsthand look at what it takes to keep Wise County safe.

This FREE 11-week program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the daily operations of our Deputies, Dispatchers, Jailers, and civilian staff, with presentations and demonstrations from Patrol, Crime Scene Investigations, SWAT, and more. Classes are held Thursday evenings from 6:30–9:30 PM, beginning September 10, 2026.

Who can apply?
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must live or work in Wise County
• Must complete and pass a background check
• No law enforcement experience is required

Last night Lonnie VanSchuyver teamed up with Scott Davis to represent the Newark Citizens Patrol. After Scott checked in with our always awesome WCSO dispatchers, these two patrolled our area thoroughly.

It always amazes us how busy Thursday nights can be. It’s not unusual for us to see and talk with more people in the early morning hours on Thursday nights than any other night of the week-including weekends! Last night with no exceptions especially around Country Living. Some folks just out during the cooling temps for sure. Others, well…..

Overall just another night out on our little community in greatest state in the union.

Very proud of how our deputies responded to an issue here in Newark late yesterday. Professional and courteous.

One of the adults involved in the situation sent a text later stating ‘….and the situation with law enforcement was very different. They weren’t judgmental at all and very cordial.’

Thanks to Jason Snow for teaming up with Scott Davis for the Newark Citizens Patrol. It was a quiet night overnight with the only folks out being dog walkers taking advantage of the cooler temps in the early morning hours.

Folks, don’t forget that our little ones are going back to school this week. They will be confused on where to go, where to be and dealing with all the awkwardness of school starting back. They sometimes make poor decisions and dart here and there. Please keep close watch while you are driving until they settle in.
