Back to School: You’ve Got This, Spoken Heroes! 📚✨

A new school year means new opportunities, new experiences, and new possibilities. It’s okay to feel nervous or anxious. Give yourself time to adjust and remember: you’ve got this! ✨🧡

Advocate for Yourself 🗣️

Start the semester by using your voice. Introduce yourself to your teachers and professors, communicate your needs, ask questions, and advocate for the support and accommodations you need. Your voice matters.

Be Open to Something New🌟

Step outside of what’s familiar. Join a club, attend an event, meet someone new, explore an internship, or try something you’ve never done before. You never know where a new experience might lead!

Get Your Work Done Early 📚

When you can, plan ahead! Read your syllabus, write down important deadlines, stay organized, and start assignments early. We know life gets busy, so remember: progress, not perfection.

Go Above & Beyond 🚀

Challenge yourself this year. Participate, ask questions, stay engaged, help others, and take pride in your progress. Don’t just focus on what you have to do. Discover what you’re capable of doing.

Spread the Word 🧡

Investing in the next generation of leaders is one of the greatest privileges of the work we do.

As part of the internship program, interns Daniel, Savir, and Damiano were on assignment at Nonprofit Advocacy Day at the New Jersey State House. During the event, they strengthened their professional communication and networking skills, connected with nonprofit leaders from across New Jersey, and gained valuable firsthand experience in advocacy and civic engagement.

At Spoken Heroes, we believe leadership is built through real-world experiences. Opportunities like these empower our interns to grow as confident professionals, effective advocates, and future changemakers. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented our mission.

Over the past year, our collaboration with New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) has created incredible experiences and meaningful memories for the Spoken Heroes community. 🎭❤️

Together, we’ve attended amazing performances, explored different forms of art, and brought students, families, staff, and supporters together through shared cultural experiences.

These moments have been about more than attending shows. They’ve created opportunities for connection, confidence, self-advocacy, creativity, and belonging.

We’re grateful to continue building accessible and inclusive experiences alongside NJPAC and look forward to many more moments shared together.✨🎭🌐💡

Spoken Heroes was elated to have been part of the 2nd Autism Awareness Conference, “Beyond Awareness: Action, Advocacy & Achievement in Autism.” Thank you to Essex County College West Caldwell for bringing together educators, families, professionals, and community partners committed to creating real impact.

Originally, this presentation was scheduled to feature our Founder and President, Steven McCoy, alongside our student, Danniell P. But in a powerful moment of leadership and inclusion, Danniell invited his fellow Spoken Heroes to join him on stage.

One of the most meaningful moments for our team was seeing Danniell share his story of autism during his first major speaking engagement. As an aspiring , he also spoke about the he has faced while pursuing his passion. His honesty, strength, and determination were felt throughout the room.

At , we believe in our students. We’ve had the honor of supporting Danniell’s boxing journey, including sponsoring his training sessions, and we’ve witnessed his growth not only in skill, but in confidence. His progress is a reflection of what’s possible when opportunity meets belief.

We also want to thank our students from Hudson and Bergen County West who came out to support their brother, Danniell. That is what community looks like.

We are proud of Danniell and all of our students. They are the heroes of today and tomorrow. This is how we continue to bridge the gap.✨🌍💥🥊
