Everyone got new sunshades and some of our crew have decided they also make great hammocks! Who else is a fan of the crazy fox hairdos when they are blowing winter coats? 😂

We are always looking for new ways to improve our crews spaces. Although all of our animals have climate controlled indoor spaces, providing more shade for those sunny breezy days is one way that we have upgraded everyone's spaces over the past week. Thank you to a wonderful donor for purchasing all our new dual purpose sun shades!

This is a HUGE deal. These coyotes arrived terrified of people. Just the sight of a person in the distance or the sound of footsteps caused panic and pacing. Today I can walk by them and up to them and they are comfortable enough they don't jump at the sound of my feet or presence. They are completely relaxed and comfortable. They just keep napping, no panic and no freak out and this brings me so much joy! This is our only goal for every animal at our sanctuary, that they are happy, comfortable and relaxed. We are every animal in our cares forever home and home should be a relaxing happy place and that is what we give each animal here.

We had a crazy fun time spending all last week with our brand new friend from UCLA. We were contacted a few months ago about helping with a communication study that a group of researchers is conducting at UCLA on play vocalizations in foxes. Super cool, right? One of the wonderful members of the UCLA team spent all last week with us recording audio of our crew playing. We had so much fun in reducing foxes to new friends that they had never met, encouraging crazy play and are already bonded groups, play vocalizations of kits and kits and their parents, recording play vocalizations of the foxes when they play with humans as well as when they interact with other species like dogs. It was a jam packed week! Can't wait to learn all about the research when it's compiled and finished to see what fun things we can learn about Fox play communication as a whole!

Loving pets is a new thing for pretty miss Cinderella. Cinderella has been friendly since the day she arrived, but she proffered to do the touching rather than recieve it, but lately she has had a chance of heart and has decided she enjoys being on the receiving end of lovins.

Cinderella came to us after being abandoned and dumped in the wild. Thanks to a good Samaritan that took the time to earn Cindy's trust, catch her and get her to us she is safe and living her best life!

Alice is asking for your help! Spring is here which means it's time for all of the outside portions of our enclosures to get new mulch.

Saturday we have a group of Boy Scouts coming out to help us with this huge project. We need 55 cubic yards of mulch to get everyone done.

The non-splintering Mulch that we get cost $40 a cubic yard.

We're asking for 55 of our followers to donate $40 today so that we can purchase all the mulch that we need.

We save a lot of money by purchasing all of our mulch at once on delivery fees.

I will be updating everyone throughout the day and our stories as to how many more people we need to donate $40 to reach our goal.

Five Babies, can you guess which one isn't like the other? Today we are asking for your support by joining these five little cuties in a $5 Friday!

Walking wild has been one busy Place lately as you can see in these photos. But this is just a tiny aspect of what has been going on here. Not only is baby season upon us in full swing and every year we are called to help with lots of different unique situations involving little ones, which we are honored that we can help with. We are finishing up the last aspects of construction that will allow us to open our doors to the public and welcome all of you out later this year and making some upgrades. All of this is of course on top of everything that goes on on the daily and our regular request that we receive, sometimes multiple times a week, to help with other foxes in need of sanctuary.

We know how valuable every dollar that's donated is and we can't thank each person that chooses to give to our life saving Mission enough for entrusting us with your monetary gift. Every dollar donated goes directly to the animals here at Walking Wild and ensuring that every life gets a loving home and a fighting chance to survive! Right now we need to raise an additional $10,000 over our regular monthly donations to complete some of the immediate projects and baby season care that's at hand.

I know I love to just scroll on social media and clicking outside links can sidetrack the cuteness scroll, however myself and the entire Walking Wild family would be extremely grateful if you could take a few moments to click the link and donate just $5. If just a fraction of our followers did that we would surpass the $10,000 that is needed for immediate additional projects and baby care.

These four little ones won't be the only babies that we will be asked to help with this kit season and we are working to ensure we are ready for whatever call comes through. More to come and official introductions on Harmony's new BFFs in the coming days.

Just the happiest Arctic fox you will ever meet. Ham is not your normal Arctic fox. His people obsession is next level!

If you are seeing this video you may be surprised that an arctic fox is living inside of a home. You might also think to yourself I wish I had an Arctic fox inside of my home. Although Ham and every other fox and animal here at Walking Wild are not a wild animal, they are not truly domesticated like we think of with our dogs and cats. This means that they are not the ideal housemate for the vast majority of people and are never a pet. Hammy is as ornery and destructive as he is cute, and that isn't something that can be trained out of him, that is his instinctual nature and just what a fox is. So please don't think that bringing a non-wild Arctic or any fox home is a good idea.

Happy from tiny Tink!!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. A little over a month ago my mom had a stroke and I am one of her primary care takers. With everything posting has been falling behind, but rest assured Walking Wild and the crew are doing great, I am just splitting my time between the animals and caring for a sick loved one again. More posts are coming though. I promise! 😁

Hercules was in a glamor shot mood today!

If you guessed red species you are correct! If you guessed red species you may be thinking he is almost albino, but he is not. Hercules is a captive bred, man made color of a red species fox called a glacier blue. If you look closely you can see Herc's snout and between his eyes are lighter than the fur on either side of his face (it is more noticeable when he plays in the rain and his fur gets wet.). This color mutation of a red species fox, and almost 70 other red species fox color mutations, werel created through selective breeding on fur farms to make a fox that's pelt could be sold for more money. Although Hercules is one beautiful boy, his beauty has a sad history. 😥
