Building the Bridge to a Better Future

Tender Steps of New York, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization founded by Evelyn Bautista-Miller, LMSW, SDA, Bilingual Social Worker. Bautista-Miller has experience as a former Supervisor in a Foster Care Agency, Director at a special needs preschool, Early Intervention, School Social Worker from grades Preschool through High School, Alternative High

School, Young Adult Residential Facility, Residential Rehabilitation Center, Assistant Principal at a Charter High School, and most recently an IEP Social Worker. was created because she saw a desperate need for various types of counseling services to be provided to many families and clients in the county. In addition to providing services, there is a need for ongoing services to assist former group home or foster children. As a Bilingual licensed social worker, there also appears to be an increasing amount of Bilingual Spanish families that are in need of services within Rockland County to be able to be successful. As a school social worker, it is always important to provide concrete services to decrease the possibility of having a crisis within our great county. The goal of this agency will serve the purpose of assisting families and children to receive consistent positive counseling services and to network with efficient already existing agencies that provide services to young adults. As a licensed Social Worker and School Administrator, Ms. Bautista-Miller saw an increasingly desperate need for various types of counseling services in the county, especially among young people and in the Latino community. The goal of this agency is to assist families and individuals by providing counseling services within the community. We are aiming to provide:
• Behavioral management
• Conflict resolution and mediation
• Support for the management of difficult behaviors
• Anger management
• Family and group work
• Life Skills
• Self-Esteem
• Bullying management
• Strategy for effective Parent and Child relations
• Trauma Counseling
• Divorce counseling

Areas of concern:
• To Provide Social Work Consultation in the School Districts
• Build awareness of the current crisis that Rockland County is experiencing amongst our youths.
• Specifically in some areas in Rockland County where there is a dire need for concrete counseling services
• Identify additional need groups and organizations/agencies chartered to provide service
• Provide culturally appropriate information, sensitivity and awareness.
• There is an increase of Latinos in this county and there is a need to provide comprehensive services. Outreach to other organizations in Rockland County
• Assist in the coordination of strength based assessments
• Apply for grant to assist with counseling which will include most bilingual services (Spanish)
• Provide concrete services with extensive collaboration with community based organizations for students
• Provide services for families and individuals
• Target at-risk students
• Assist in the coordination of strength based assessments
• Foster collaborative partnerships with community organizations who share common goals
• Rockland County Organizations that might have established programs that would benefit our Students & families
• Create a connection with the services provided to our students & community organizations, including the possible input of probation officers (if needed).

*All services are available in English, Creole or Spanish.

The Tender Steps of New York, Inc. family gathered for our Annual Visionary Luncheon — a powerful celebration of community, compassion, and continued commitment to those we serve.

Since 2014, Tender Steps of NY has been dedicated to building the bridge to a better future for children, families, and communities across Rockland County and beyond. Through advocacy, education, language access, and wraparound services, we’re proud to walk alongside families through even the most complex journeys.

This year’s luncheon reminded us of the beauty in collaboration. We welcomed supporters, sponsors, partners, and new friends who all share one mission — to uplift, empower, and protect our most vulnerable.

From honoring community champions, to showcasing upcoming events and initiatives for 2024–2025, we are inspired by the love and support that continues to surround this work.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every guest, donor, and sponsor who made this event possible — and to the Tender Steps team whose passion continues to light the way.

We’re just getting started.
