Lucas is a 18 month-old ray of sunshine in a yellow Lab mix body! At just 25 pounds, he’s the perfect medium-sized companion — big enough for adventures, but small enough for cozy cuddles on the couch.
This sweet boy is as friendly as they come. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, loves children, and greets everyone he meets with a tail wag and a smile. Lucas has an upbeat, playful personality and is always ready to chase a ball, go for a walk, or just roll around in the grass with his favorite people.

But don’t let the energy fool you — Lucas is also affectionate, gentle, and sweet as sugar. He would thrive in a loving home, whether it’s with an individual looking for a loyal companion or a family eager for a furry playmate.

Lucas is neutered, has received all of his vaccinations and is ready to start the next chapter of his life in a forever home where he’ll be cherished and loved.

If you’re searching for a happy, loving, playful pup to add joy and affection to your life, Lucas is your guy!

🍯 Meet Honey! 5 Years of Sweetness & S***k! 🐾

This lovely girl is a perfect mix of “chill” and “thrill”. She is quiet when she needs to be, but with a hidden spunky side that loves to play!

She is a true gem — sweet as honey, calm and obedient, but with a playful and spunky spirit that is waiting to shine in the right home. She is always ready for a good snuggle and longs for a home where she can offer cuddles and many adventures.

Honey is spayed, vaccinated and in good health. She is house-trained, great on walks, and just wants a family to love. Could it be you? ❤️ To adopt Honey, head over to our website strayfromtheheart.org to submit an online adoption application.

Rest in peace, sweet Luna. You will always be in our hearts💔

I wanted to write to let you know that our sweet Luna crossed the rainbow bridge last month, in our arms. 🌈🐾 We missed her so much during the holidays😔

Luna came to us in February 2016, almost 10 years ago, she was estimated to be 2 years old at that time. She was so timid arriving in snowy New York, and was afraid of every sound inside the house and outside. But slowly opened up and learned to relax and loved cuddling with us in bed. She didn’t like New York City that much, and was so happy when we moved to a single family home in Westchester, with a backyard for Luna, in 2019. She truly flourished then, and loved chasing rabbits and even dug up a mole in the backyard. She loved going on car rides and explore all the parks nearby. She loved 2020, when the world locked down and my husband and I would take her on hour-long walks together everyday.

Luna became a big sister to a human sister in 2022. She was involved in everything, even insisting her way into the bathroom when we bathed the baby for the first time, and helping to clean up after every meal by licking the floor clean under the table.😌

We are so grateful for the almost 10 years we spent together. Over a month ago we realized that Luna was having difficulty p*eing and learned that she had a bladder tumor (transitional carcinoma). It grew so fast and blocked her ability to p*e completely in just one month. But she was full of life and energy until the last day, even decorating our Christmas tree together on Saturday morning. She was a strong girl who did not show her pain easily.

I want to thank you for giving us our amazing girl.. she was our first dog and taught us so much. When we are ready, in the future, we promise to welcome another dog in her honor.🐶

From Luna parents,
Hide and Hina

Sadly, we begin the new year facing yet another reality of abandonment and neglect of sweet, lovings dogs. The images below show the conditions in which these two puppies were found. While we dont know who abandoned them, they are now safe, cared for, and on the path to a promising future.
We named them Biscuit and Muffin, both males and approximately 4 months old. They once again remind us of the ongoing need to protect and advocate for neglected animals who have the potential to be loving, loyal family companions but who cannot speak for themselves.

With your donations, no matter how small, we can keep helping dogs like Biscuit and Muffin and offer them the future they deserve. You can donate toward their vet bill and continuing care on our website strayfromtheheart.org Thank you for your continued support!

As new year’s celebrations approach, remember that fireworks are often a source of extreme stress and paranoia for our dogs. The unpredictable blasts can trigger a flight response, leading many pets to panic, bolt from their homes, and potentially injure themselves in their desperation to find safety.

Please prioritize your pup’s well-being by keeping them indoors in a secure, quiet space. Let’s do our part to keep our furry friends safe and sound! 🐾🎆

Dear friends,

As we are fast approaching 2026, we want to wish all our supporters and their families a healthy and happy New Year, as well as a safe New Year for your beloved companion pets.

Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will go missing at one point in their lifetime?

The causes are many... a broken fence, a door or gate accidentally left open, the sound of fireworks, storms or other loud noises, unfamiliar environments due to traveling, boarding, moving or recent adoptions and sometimes just wandering due to old age.

One thing is clear: the rate of recovery depends heavily on your pet’s ID.

So we want to make everyone aware of the statistics and the benefits of GPS collars for tracking your dogs in real time using cellular service. Here is the breakdown:

- Without any ID, there is only a 10–20% chance you will ever get * your dog back.

- With a collar and an up-to-date ID tag, that increases your chance of being reunited to 65–80% within the same day or 1–2 days.

- A microchip alone typically has a 52–74% recovery rate within 2–7 days — so visible, current ID tags help!

- With GPS collars alone, that goes up to 90% recovery in under 24 hours.

- With all 3, collars with current ID tags, registered microchips, and GPS tracking collars, reuniting with your dog is 95%+ within hours, if not minutes.

When a dog is out there on the streets, traffic accidents and theft become very real, so time is of the essence.

There are different GPS tracking collars available, so do your research to see what’s best for you and your treasured pet, and have the most peaceful New Year! 🎉

We are heartbroken to share the passing of Columbo, a beloved 15-year-old Shih-Tzu who was adopted 15 years ago by his amazing mom, Donna. From the very beginning, Columbo was surrounded by love, comfort, and devotion, and he lived a truly wonderful life because of her. He was deeply cherished and will be missed more than words can express. Rest easy, sweet Columbo — you will always be remembered. 🐾💙
