Australians In Washington Association

Australians In Washington Association Australian (and New Zealand) social group G’day! Welcome to the Australians in Washington (AWA) page!

We are a bunch of Australians- and friends of Australians- currently living in the Washington DC metropolitan area who like to get together now and again for a bit of fun, Aussie-style. Our group consists of people from all over Australia. Some of our members have come here with their company on an assignment; some are Australian Embassy staff and others work here freelance or are studying. We als

o have members who have made the DC area (&/or America) their permanent home &/or business location. Most members live in the tri-State area (DC, Maryland and Virginia) but many come from further afield (Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore). With professions including entrepeneurs, lawyers, small business owners, property developers, teachers, bankers, scientists, domestic engineers, & artists, if you are an Aussie, partner or friend of an Aussie, have spent time in Australia, or just love hanging out with Aussies, we are the Association for you!

Hi all trust that you are doing well and had a great Australia Day. Sorry no party this year again.

Nothing much importance so I thought I would share a video showing warm sunny Melbourne from a different perspective.

Stay warm

Looks like QF are making moves to be international again in November with 5 A380s and working there way up to 12. This is ahead of what was previously forecast. I hope this also aligns with passengers being able to enter and exit Australia and not just freight.

In total, Qantas expects 10 of its 12 A380s to be back to performing regularly scheduled services by early 2024, while the remaining two are to be retired.

There have been a few stories around of Aussies missing flights back to Australia for various reasons. If you have connecting flights before the Aussie leg, plan on getting to the west coast airport with time (a day) to spare, as the next opportunity to fly to Australia could be weeks/months away.

On the back of the announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) that caps will remain in place, we remind you to plan ahead, closely monitor your flights in the days and weeks leading up to your departure, and be prepared to put in place alternative arrangements.

In the event that your flights are delayed or cancelled, contact your airline or travel agent as soon as possible to discuss your options and onward travel arrangements.
