Newsweek spoke with Seeds of Peace Executive Director Eva Armour about how dialogue can build bridges across deep divides of disagreement, difference, and conflict.

In this polarized and often violent moment, Seeds of Peace offers a model that does more than inspire—it builds real relationships, changes lives, and moves us toward something better.

This work is not optional. It is essential—and more important now than ever.

The 2026 South Asia Regional Leadership Camp in Sri Lanka has come to a close! For two weeks, 40 young leaders from India and Pakistan lived, learned, and worked together through dialogue, shared challenges, creativity, and daily camp life. We’re grateful to the campers, staff, and partners who made this space, modeled after the Seeds of Peace Camp, possible.

Twelve US Seeds met in El Paso last week to gain a better understanding of the realities of migration, immigration policy, and the southern border.

The Seeds attended sessions with subject matter experts from Abara and UTEP - The University of Texas at El Paso, conducted site visits that prompted exploratory dialogue sessions, navigated the realities of physical and mental borders, and shared their own family migration stories with each other.

"This program taught me so much about the history of the border, what daily realities are for communities divided by the border, and how people continue to hope and prosper in the face of adversity."

"Before this trip, immigration felt like more of a distant issue that didn’t really impact me, after this experience I realized what America calls the 'illegal aliens' aren’t people much different from me."

"This program has helped me develop tools to help me foster a better sense of support within our community through our tough discussions and experiences."

Pakistani Seed Rumi reflects on his experiences meeting Indian campers at the Seeds of Peace Camp in Maine last summer.

"Sometimes, all it takes is one experience to challenge everything we thought we knew. For me, that experience came in the most unexpected way: at a camp where I found myself questioning everything that I had grown up believing."

Rumi Kabir, from grade 10, reminds us of the power of human connection and how international friendships can foster empathy and unity across divides. Rumi K...

This summer, the young leaders we are bringing together at Camp have met with elected Maine representatives at every level of government and across the political spectrum—including Senators Angus King & Susan Collins, Maine State Reps. Sophie Warren (Maine Seed) & Deqa Dhalac, and Portland City Councilor Pious Ali—giving campers a chance to ask questions about leadership and share their lived experiences.
