Big News for NYC/Long Island & New Jersey Riders!

Metropolitan Equestrian is launching a NEW flexible competition team model for the NYC/Long Island & New Jersey 2026–2027 season — designed to make competitive riding more accessible than ever.

Our goal is simple: remove barriers while preserving the quality, coaching support, and team experience that define MET.

Now riders can train where they choose and compete with MET coaches at competitions throughout the season, combining the freedom families need with the professional coaching and team experience MET is known for.

This model allows students to pursue their personal riding goals while being part of a nationally recognized team that focuses on confidence, leadership, and long-term success — including collegiate pathway opportunities.

Whether you are new to showing or ready to take the next step in competition, MET provides a supportive, inclusive environment where riders grow both in and out of the saddle.

They’re on the road!!! 🐴✨

Eight of our amazing horses are officially making their way from New York to Washington, DC today, and we could not be more excited to welcome them to their new home in our nation’s capital. This is one of those moments that reminds us just how much it takes — and how many people it takes — to make the magic happen.

To our donors and sponsors: THANK YOU. Your support is what turns big dreams into real opportunities for our riders, students, and community. Because of you, these horses will continue changing lives every single day.

And a huge shoutout to Brook Ledge Horse Transportation for their top-notch professionalism and care. There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our horses, and we are so grateful to have them in such trusted hands for the journey.

As Metropolitan Equestrian continues to expand our work at federal park locations across the United States, we are excited to share an important update for our Long Island community for 2026.

Because of our growing involvement in federal partnerships and national expansion efforts, our Central Islip programs will transition to our Long Island extension location at Sagamore Hill Stables. This shift allows us to remain actively present in Long Island while we continue advancing opportunities at federal properties and new program locations throughout the country, while maintaining our commitment to leadership, entrepreneurship, and educational development that supports students in pursuing collegiate riding pathways, recruitment opportunities, and scholarship advancement. Sagamore Hill Stables also provides additional advantages for our team riders, including access to recognized competition environments and the ability to support the increasing interest among our members in attending USEF and USHJA horse shows.

This transition also strengthens our ability to continue our team programs while supporting important community initiatives, including our NYS OPWDD Self-Direction programs and our LIHSSRD/Para Olympic development programs at Sagamore Hill Stables.

We are pleased that our Horses of Honor program will continue to operate at Parkview Equestrian Center without any changes, ensuring ongoing access and continuity for the families we serve.

A very sincere thanks to the Mineri family of Parkview Equestrian Center, along with Lisa and Ross Kaplan of Sagamore Hill Stables, for their continued support as long-time supporters and donors of Metropolitan Equestrian. Their collective commitment has helped make ongoing opportunities for our Long Island riders possible.

We are grateful for the continued support of our Long Island community and look forward to this next chapter of growth together.

Metropolitan Equestrian was honored to attend an event hosted by All In Together, exploring the powerful intersection of AI, philanthropy, social good, and public policy.

The conversations reinforced how emerging technologies can strengthen nonprofit impact—supporting smarter operations, more equitable access to resources, and data-informed advocacy that influences policy and systems change.

As a nonprofit that uses horses as an interest point for education, youth development, and community engagement, this experience affirmed our belief that innovation and tradition can work hand in hand. By pairing experiential learning with forward-thinking tools, we can better serve our communities, expand opportunity, and help shape policies that support education, wellness, and access for all.

We’re excited to continue learning, adapting, and leading at the intersection of education, philanthropy, and innovation—always grounded in our mission and our horses. 🐎

🐎 Sweet 16. Still Standing. Still Expanding.

As Metropolitan Equestrian enters our "Sweet 16", we’re reflecting on something important:

While much of the traditional “lesson barn” model operates, MET is growing—because we were never just a riding school.

What began as a grassroots effort focused on serving youth has evolved into a national, community-driven model serving all ages, with primary operations in New York and Washington, DC, and programs reaching far beyond our arenas.

From day one, MET was built on a different belief:
That horses are shared community assets,
that access should not require ownership,
and that equestrian spaces can drive education, workforce pathways, wellness, and lifelong impact.

Today, our school horses don’t serve just one rider—they serve hundreds of youth, adults, veterans, and families through structured programs, teams, and pathways that extend far beyond the saddle.

As we celebrate our Sweet 16, we’re also proud to be transparent about what truly sustains this work:

MET’s long-term sustainability does not rely on program revenue alone.

Our impact is made possible through diversified funding, including:
• Program tuition and earned revenue
• Public and private grants
• Individual and corporate philanthropy
• Community partnerships and sponsorships
• Mission-aligned public land partnerships—most notably through our partnership with the National Park Service as a federal concession

Through this federal concession partnership, MET advances shared goals around public access to lands, education, recreation, stewardship, and community engagement. This role plays a meaningful part in our growth, visibility, and ability to serve diverse populations, while allowing philanthropic investments to be leveraged alongside public stewardship.

Together, philanthropy and public partnership allow us to:
• Keep programs accessible
• Invest in horse care, facilities, and staff
• Protect long-term stability
• Ensure public equestrian spaces remain open, inclusive, and community-centered

That’s why, 16 years later:
• Our youth roots remain strong
• Our programs now serve all ages
• Our footprint spans NY, DC, and beyond
• And our work continues to gain national recognition

The future of equestrian sport isn’t about exclusivity.
It’s about access, shared investment, public partnership, and purpose.

If you believe in the power of horses as a public good—and in the role public lands play in strengthening communities—we invite you to stand with us.

Here’s to our Sweet 16—and to building what comes next. 💙

Today is a profoundly sad day for our sport and our equestrian community.

We join Molloy University Equestrian Team in mourning the loss of Carole Gerrity, a true pioneer, mentor, and advocate for riders across generations. Carole was a spearhead for inclusion and opportunity within the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association, and her impact reached far beyond any single program or campus.

When our Founder & Executive Director Jane DaCosta returned home from military service in 2002, Carole was instrumental in helping create and support the IHSA Military Service Extension, opening doors for service members rejoining collegiate equestrian sport after deployment. That advocacy mattered. It changed lives. It allowed riders to come home, rebuild, and belong again.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Molloy University Equestrian Team, Carole’s family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Thank you, Carole, for your leadership, your compassion, and your unwavering dedication to this sport. Your legacy will continue to ride on. 🕊️🐎
