We’re excited to co-present this Sunday’s screening of Huo Meng’s LIVING THE LAND at Film Forum — winner of the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival. 🌾

It’s 1991 in rural China. As the country surges toward industrialization, Chuang — just 10 years old — is left in his family’s wheat-farming village while his parents head to the city for work. Under the watch of his brassy great-grandmother and his fiercely independent Auntie Xiuying, and keeping close company with his cousin Jihua, Chuang quietly bears witness to the seasons of a deeply rooted but vanishing way of life.

🎬 Join us this Sunday, April 5, 5:45 PM at Film Forum, introduced by AAIFF’s very own programmer Jackson Lee.

We’re thrilled to introduce something brand new to AAIFF — the Super Big Eight Fund is awarding $800 to the winner of our Ones to Watch category 🎥

This prize is dedicated to the memory of Daihachi Yagi — a funny, kind-hearted New Yorker and lifelong creative who always wanted to keep making films. This award exists so that the next Daihachi can.

In the words of Daihachi’s sister, “this award celebrates the brave, under-21 adventurers exploring their ‘you’re still fooling around with that?’ passions and making expressive works that give us a view into the colorful minds of the young.”

Ones to Watch submissions are open. Go make your thing.

Please also enjoy HAN FØLGER by Daihachi Yagi
