An unforgettable night of music, storytelling, and community.
On March 1, 2026, Sankofa.org gathered artists, organizers, and cultural leaders for a special Listening Event, an intimate cultural salon where music met movement and conversation met purpose. Through live performances, dialogue, and shared reflection, the evening celebrated the power of art to inspire action and bring people together.
With incredible contributions from artists and changemakers including Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Dominique DiPrima, Chuck D, Danny Glover, Dolores Huerta, and Shepard Fairey, the night honored the deep connection between culture and social change.
Rooted in the legacy of Harry Belafonte, Sankofa.org continues to create spaces where artists and organizers come together to imagine and build a more just world.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this powerful evening. The work — and the music — continues. ✊🏽🎶

On March 1st, we celebrate what would have been Harry Belafonte’s 99th heavenly birthday. 🕊️

A revolutionary artist, cultural strategist, and unwavering freedom fighter, Harry Belafonte understood that art was never just entertainment, it was a tool for transformation. From the Civil Rights Movement and standing alongside Dr. King, to amplifying global struggles for justice, he used his voice, platform, and resources in service of collective liberation.

His legacy reminds us that culture moves people, and people move history.

At Sankofa.org, we carry that forward every day, harnessing storytelling, music, and art to confront injustice, train the next generation of organizers, and build a more just and connected world. We go back to get what was forgotten, and we bring it forward with purpose.

Happy 99th heavenly birthday, Harry. Your song is still being sung. ✨
