Korean American Community Foundation - KACF Founded in 2002, KACF is the largest organization mobilizing philanthropy to strengthen the economic security of Korean Americans.

KACF provides grants and capacity-building assistance to organizations working to address the most pressing needs in the Korean American community and beyond. We foster philanthropic giving among Korean Americans, the general public, corporations and foundations by providing our supporters with an effective vehicle to magnify the impact of their giving and to build bridges across generations and communities.

At KACF's inaugural Los Angeles Gala, honorees Nam Soon and Sarah Ahn, the James Beard Award-winning mother-daughter duo behind Ahnest Kitchen and the New York Times bestselling cookbook UMMA, reflected on what it means to move from uncertainty and needing help to being in a position to extend that help to others.

Sarah reminds us of how fragile stability can be for working families, where the line between getting by and falling behind can be one paycheck, one unexpected expense, or one sudden change in circumstances.

For their family, community-based organizations were there when they needed support, providing food assistance, translation, and help navigating unfamiliar systems.

Their story is a powerful reminder of why community matters, and why we invest in organizations that help families find their footing and build greater stability and opportunity.

โ€œAt a certain point, when all you're doing is copying and mimicking, it's kind of like your persona is being stretched further and further from who you are. And eventually, I think that rubber band is going to snap.โ€

At our inaugural Los Angeles Gala, honoree Lee Sung Jin, the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning creator, executive producer, writer, and director of Netflixโ€™s BEEF, reflected on his childhood growing up in the Midwest, and the complicated search for belonging that shaped both his life and his work.

He spoke candidly about the pressure to assimilate, his struggles with mental health, and what can happen when we try to distance ourselves from parts of who we are in order to fit in. His journey became one of learning to confront what was difficult and embrace himself more fully.

That journey ultimately shaped BEEF, a deeply personal work that he says became one of the truest expressions of who he is.

His story also speaks to why community-rooted support matters. When struggles are faced in isolation, especially where cultural and language barriers make it harder to ask for help, we need spaces and systems of care where people can find connection and understanding. It is why philanthropy shaped by and for our community matters.

Thank you, Sung Jin, for sharing your journey with such openness and vulnerability, and for using your voice and work to bring stories that allow us to see more of ourselves and one another to life.

More than 400 people came together for KACFโ€™s inaugural Los Angeles Gala. Together, we raised $1.5 million for our community, marking an exciting new chapter for Korean American in Southern California.

Your support powers KACFโ€™s mission to invest in our grantee partners and help generations of families build greater stability and opportunity.

Through deeply personal stories, our honorees reflected on experiences that have shaped so many of our lives: immigration, sacrifice, and the struggles that often remain unseen.

Joyful to be in community with friends, leaders, and partner organizations at the third annual ASCENT, a celebration of Asian American leadership in New York City hosted by Council Member Shekar Krishnan and Council Member Linda Lee.

Our President & CEO, Kyung B. Yoon, moderated the panel โ€œTelling Our Stories: AAPIs in Mediaโ€ featuring Jason Ve, President of Paper Magazine, and Priya Krishna, reporter and video host for NYT Cooking.

The conversation highlighted the importance of representation and the power of who gets to tell our stories and how they are told. At KACF, we believe storytelling plays an important role in building visibility, connection, and deeper support for our communities.
