The CCNY Communications Alumni boasts more than 1,000 members engaged in journalism, public relations, advertising, creative writing and other communications endeavors, as well as the film and video fields. The group assists current students with mentor programs; holds an

annual dinner; and elects distinguished Alumni into the Communications Alumni Hall of Fame. The Group publishes an annual newsletter, entitled The Communicator.

Hear Nobel laureate Venki Ramakrishnan in conversation with CCNY's David Jeruzalmi at the CUNY Graduate Center and on Zoom October 15. Ramakrishnan, who shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009, is the author of "Why We Die: The New Science of Aging and the Quest for Immortality." Jeruzalmi is Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at City College and the Graduate Center.

Young members of this group may not know the name of legendary New York Times Selwyn Raab, a 1956 graduate of CCNY, who has died at age 90. He was an inductee of the Communications Alumni Hall of Fame and a Townsend Harris medalist Moreover this obituary is replete with connections to the college — including the name in the byline.

At The Times and elsewhere, he wrote about wrongful convictions, fake methadone clinics and the five powerful Mafia families in New York.

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead will receive CCNY's 2024 Langston Hughes Medal at the 45th annual Langston Hughes Festival on February 1st. The medal recognizes distinguished writers of the African American diaspora whose work has helped celebrate the memory and tradition of Langston Hughes. Past award winners include James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, August Wilson, and Maya Angelou.

Whitehead won his first Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for his novel “The Underground Railroad.” A #1 New York Times bestseller, it also earned him the National Book Award and the Carnegie Medal for Fiction. His second Pulitzer came two years later for “The Nickel Boys,” a novel inspired by the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in Florida.

We've lost a distinguished member of the Communications Alumni of CCNY. Farewell Marvin Kitman, with condolences to his family.

He twitted the networks for 35 years as a critic at Newsday. He also audited George Washington’s wartime expense account and wrote a biography of Bill O’Reilly.

On Wednesday, May 10th, The City College of New York, Communications Alumni Group (CAG), and members of the journalism, film, advertising, public relations, and greater marketing/communications industry will come together as the CAG hosts its 46th Annual Dinner.
This year's guest of honor, and recipient of the CAG's New York Media Legend Award, is Pulitzer-Prize Winner, Author, and Political Analyst Maggie Haberman.
