Today, we find ourselves three years since October 7. Three years since a day that profoundly changed Israel, the Jewish people, and so many of us personally. Three years later, the darkness is still real.
But Jewish tradition also asks us what we do with darkness. We light candles. We tell stories. We gather in company and build community. We care for one another and we choose life and hope. From darkness to light doesn’t mean that the darkness disappears. It means that we choose to add light.
Three years after October 7, we remember, mourn, and hold complexity. And we continue to build.
May the memories of those who have been lost be a blessing. May those innocents who are still suffering know peace. And may we have the capacity, compassion, and hope to continue bringing light into the world.
