This Friday marks 25 years since our country was attacked by terrorists. 9/11/2001 was a day of great loss, even greater fear, and it all brought about changes that we still deal with to this very day.
They used to say that you'll remember exactly where you were when you heard the news, a statement that is very true for me.
At the time I lived in Bradenton, Florida and was working at Custom Coatings Painting. My crew was in Palmetto that day, listening to the local rock music station on a Dewalt radio. I was on a ladder, painting the eaves on a new build home when the music suddenly cut out and a voice came across, telling us that the towers had been hit.
About 25 minutes from me, in Sarasota, G.W. Bush sat in a classroom reading to elementary students ... you've all seen the clip of him reacting to the news himself.
It was a day unmatched in my lifetime, and I'm old enough to remember watching the Space Shuttle Challenger explode on live TV in our 5th grade classroom.
We at the North Country Talent Show wish to express our sadness of the many lives lost as the day approaches, as well as our gratitude to the many first responders and volunteers who graciously gave up their time, and for many, gave up their lives in order to assist their fellow man in a great time of need. Never forget what happened that day, the dead deserve our thoughts and our country needs to honor those that went to help in the aftermath.
